CORDOVA, Ill. - Results of round 1 eliminations in ihra.com Funny Car at the 21st annual Amalie Motor Oil Summer Nationals:

   1 Dale Brand          5.940 235.76  Q   16 Paul Athey          6.188 227.11
 *****WINNER***** 0.478  5.940 232.23  E1                  0.488  6.126 231.08
Brand out of the gate first and kept it glued all the way down the 1320. Athey got out of the groove and made a move toward the wall.

   3 Rich Krohn          5.964 236.96  Q   14 Terry Munroe        6.110 232.47

Krohn drilled Munroe on the light and had the power to hold off the quicker, hard charging Munroe.

Smith with a slight starting line advantage, but stretched it out from there. Both cars made moves toward the centerline, and Ruda finally lifted.

Volpe with the starting line advantage and then he ran his quickest and fastest passes in this car to take the win light.

Kelley launched into some tire shake and clicked it off. Rector with his best pass on the weekend.

Gibson got into the 5-second zone with that pass to move on the round two.

Lape left with the front end in the air and when they came back down to earth Lape clicked it off. Weney with the quickest and fastest pass of the weekend.

Thomas launched into big time tire shake. Butler got real loose around around half track, but keep his foot in it to take the win light.
