CORDOVA, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the 21st annual Amalie Motor Oil Summer Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: J.R. Todd No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Don Reed Runs 7.002/132.49, Now #1
The high expectation of the debut for Jr Todd are really disappointing. It looked like something mechanical maybe because when the light turn green nothing happened. Reed labored on through the quarter mile.
Left Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 5.150/272.78, Now #1
Right Lane: Louie Allison Runs 5.396/217.46, Now #2
Bailey dropped cylinders right off the starting line, but drove it on through the quarter mile. Allison clicked it off early.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.942/297.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.016/287.11, Now #2
This was a great looking race. Millican launched hard and kept the candles lite all the way down the quarter mile. Head was right there with him.
Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 5.069/238.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Paul Romine Runs 5.215/274.94, Now #5
Romine dropped a cylinder right off the starting line, but keep his foot in it. Litton started to haze the tires around half track.
