GRAND BEND - Mopar Pro Modified Round 2 Eliminations
By Larry Sullivan

GRAND BEND, Ont. - Results of round 2 eliminations in Mopar Pro Modified at the Inaugural Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol:

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   2 Carl Spiering 6.313 221.45 Q 7 Ronnie Hood 6.404 217.44
   (P Moore ) 0.511 6.552 215.72 E1 (M Stott ) 0.441 6.473 214.69
 *****WINNER***** 0.496 6.501 209.05 E2 0.492 6.516 211.26
2:21 PM This was wild! Spiering was sideways at least three times on this run and each time he yanked the car back away from the centerline without lifting. The Canadian fans loved the win for the local boy. Margin of victory = 0.011 seconds (approximately 3 feet).

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
  11 Quain Stott 6.446 218.23 Q 3 Troy Critchley 6.362 212.81
   (A Pittman ) 0.492 6.439 219.61 E1 (T Gray ) 0.550 6.366 223.49
                  0.477 6.425 217.97 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.524 6.372 224.83
Looks like sideways is where the groove is today, Critchley late at the tree and then driving a very crooked path to the finish line. Margin of victory = 0.006 seconds (approximately 23 inches). Critchley has lane choice against Spiering in the semifinals.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   4 Steve Cossis 6.375 217.02 Q 5 Al Billes 6.377 222.60
   (C Cline ) 0.468 6.468 216.60 E1 (D Brinsfield) 0.516 6.438 218.44
                  0.501 6.504 215.62 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.510 6.431 215.05
This one was almost tame by comparison with the first two, neither car exactly straight and smooth, but neither very far out of plumb.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Roy Wasko 6.414 217.81 Q 1 Fred Hahn 6.179 226.87
   (E Hoover ) 0.538 6.511 210.92 E1 (S Jenkins ) 0.493 6.292 223.65
                  0.342 7.744 124.75 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.481 6.320 221.51
Wasko handed this one to Hahn and then Wasko's car smoked heavily on the run - black smoke, no oil. Good run for Hahn, clean and relatively straight in the heat of the afternoon. Hahn has lane choice against Billes in the semifinals.
