GRAND BEND, Ont. - Paul Romine Heads Top Fuel Field At IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals

Grand Bend, Ont. - Paul Romine heads Top Fuel qualifying at the Inagural IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex. Romine ran a 4.769/307.58, leading the pack heading into Sunday's eliminations.

Top Fuel driver Doug Foxworth's dragster was destroyed during third round qualifying when the frame bowed and broke in two. Foxworth was removed from the car, alert and conscious, and was transported to Sefton Exeter Hospital.

Fred Hahn saved the best for last in Pro Modified. Hahn laid down a 6.179/226.87, the quickest pass in IHRA Pro Modified history.

Doug Vancil was unable to back up his earlier Nitro Harley pass of 219.03 mph to make that the new world record. However, in his final qualifying attempt, he ran 215.46 mph to make that the new world record.

Canada's Rob Atchison leads the quickest field in IHRA Funny Car history. The sixteenth qualifier had a 6.096-second elapsed time, topping the previous mark, a 6.104, set at the Empire Nationals in 1999.

Ron Miller was the Pro Stock top qualifier with a 6.625/208.42 in his '98 Monte Carlo.

Final eliminations begin Sunday at 11 a.m. The Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals is the third race in the $1 million IHRA Summit Drag Racing series.

First-round pairings for professional eliminations Sunday for the Inaugural Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol at Grand Bend Motorplex, the third of 11 events in the IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series. Pairings based on results in qualifying, which ended Saturday.
