Field Tightens a Bit

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 14th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Larry Kopp Runs 7.654/176.43, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.645/176.95, Was #6
Right Lane: Scott Tidwell Runs 7.745/174.99, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.695/176.74, Was #20

1:59 PM We open the third session with a bump spot of 7.682 - occupied by Lou Ficco. Two slow 60-foot times here, a 1.10 and 1.12, respectively (left-right).

Left Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 7.765/173.87, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.829/174.68, Was #35
Right Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 7.695/175.95, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.644/177.44, Was #5

Two more slow 60-foot times, 1.11 and 1.12.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.703/174.38, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.701/175.64, Was #23
Right Lane: Tim Freeman Runs 7.661/176.36, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.649/177.02, Was #9

Lastor posted a 1.087 60-foot time, but it didn't help him improve any over yesterday.

Smith's truck launched and then nosed over, trailing smoke.

This is starting to look like one of those sessions where almost nobody improves and the field remains the same as it was when the session started.

Daniels was not able to repeat his 7.57 performance from yesterday, but his truck still looks very quick, glued to the track and straight as a string.

Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 7.634/177.51, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.687/177.02, Was #17

Finally a couple big moves, bumping Ficco and Todd Patterson.

Right Lane: David Spitzer Runs 7.808/172.57, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.730/174.79, Was #30

Spitzer's truck swims its way up the lane once again, fishtailing.

Left Lane: Bob Panella Jr Runs 7.627/176.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.601/178.00, Was #3
Right Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.882/170.10, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.743/174.72, Was #31

The bump is now Brian Self's 7.662. Panella leaves with a 1.087 60-foot time, one of the few to get into the 1.0 range today. Most have been 1.10 or slower.

Barone posted a 1.09 60-foot time and then pulled out a great run to get in, bumping Self and putting Scott Perin on the bubble at 7.661.

Left Lane: Dyno Don Nicholson No Time, Now #37; Best prior run: 7.939/158.78, Was #37
Right Lane: Rick Jones Runs 7.683/176.95, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.645/176.78, Was #8

Nicholson's truck moved about a foot when the light turned green.

He was able to back it up and drive away, so it's not clear just what broke.

Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 7.635/176.19, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.656/176.85, Was #13

Nice move by Stanfield, a small ET improvement vaulting him way up the ladder.
