BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the 12th annual O'Reilly Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Dale Creasy, Jr. Runs 5.017/295.21, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.139/281.89, Was #14 Right Lane: Cory Lee Runs 5.055/286.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.211/283.01, Was #15 12:24 PM and we have Fuel Funny Cars ready to test the track in today's first round of qualifying. Lee started smoking the tires at about 1000' but it doesn't keep him from moving up a couple notches. Creasy also moves up, no apparent problems on that run. Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.946/287.11, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.809/306.19, Was #2 Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.371/198.32, Now #18; Best prior run: 10.868/83.24, Was #19 Capps' problems continue as the car breaks loose at about 900', fishtailing toward the traps. He'll need a good run later this afternoon or he'll be going home early. Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 13.810/75.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.967/305.70, Was #5 Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.653/175.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.921/302.01, Was #3 Worsham lost traction in a cloud of smoke almost immediately. Pedregon had a little traction trouble of his own at half track with a little tire smoke. Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.571/190.73, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.950/308.78, Was #4 Right Lane: Al Hofmann Runs 8.011/106.63, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.017/297.48, Was #9 Hofmann started to move toward the center line right away, couldn't quite drive through it. Bazemore's car was also pulling to the left, he couldn't really get on it. Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 5.042/301.47, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.010/302.48, Was #7 Right Lane: Don Sosenka Runs 5.486/274.27, Now #19; Best prior run: 11.577/71.13, Was #20 Sosenka started bouncing around just past half track, had his hands full trying to keep it straight. Densham takes it straight down the groove with no problems. Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.518/187.63, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.984/303.16, Was #6 Right Lane: Al Segrini Runs 13.984/66.79, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.304/263.26, Was #17 Segrini boils the hides at 60'. Wilkerson was on a good pass until he shut it off at about 1000'. Left Lane: Phil Burkhart Runs 5.349/209.72, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.089/290.94, Was #14 Right Lane: Jim Epler Runs 6.446/132.91, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.062/299.40, Was #13 Epler lost traction at 300', then overloaded the engine with a flash of fire. He left parts and oil on the track so we have a little down time for clean up. Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.930/296.11, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.798/321.88, Was #1 Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 5.620/180.12, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.015/291.89, Was #8 12:59 PM and as usual, the burnout by these two produces enough smoke to kill every mosquito within 15 miles. Force makes a trouble-free pass while Skuza over-powers the track at 1000'. Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 5.525/189.82, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.041/305.01, Was #11 Right Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 5.222/266.64, Now #16; No Prior Run Toliver had a wisp of tire smoke near the finish. Cannon was pressing the guard rail for most of the top half of the track buts makes it into the show for now. Word here is Austin Coil gave Cannon's crew chief, Dale Pulde, a little help in the pits last night. Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 6.375/148.18, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.270/287.11, Was #17 Pedregon lost the blower belt at about half track, ending both his run and this round of Funny Car qualifying. John Force remains on the pole with a 4,798 ET and Scotty Cannon rounds off the sixteen car field at 5.222 seconds.
