Race officials cancelled the third round of qualifying for the Federal-Mogul Funny Car class to make up for the time delays caused by this morning's rain. As the first round of eliminations started, the temperature is 60-degrees and the humidity has dropped to 51 percent. Cox did not make the call, so Manzo made the run by himself. because there are only 14 cars in the field, Manzo will get a second-round by so he won't run against another car until round three.

  13 Scott Woodington 6.474 190.83 Q 2 Bob Newberry 5.715 251.58

As the 13th qualifier for the field, Woodington drew the unenviable task of running against Bob Newberry in round one. Woodington didn't last long as he left the line way too early. Newberry did not have a good run and shut off at about 800 feet.

  12 Michael Ferro 6.341 210.18 Q 3 Von Smith 5.754 248.07

                  0.835 6.546 228.15 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.490 5.640 254.71
Fishers car started to move at the lights so he hit the brakes to keep from crossing the line. Just as he did, the green light came on and Gill was long gone by the time Fisher got underway. Gill won lane choice in round two over Marc White.

   9 Eric Lourie 5.990 243.77 Q 6 Fred Tigges 5.856 241.54
 *****WINNER***** 0.511 6.034 234.17 E1 0.460 6.088 240.29
Both cars shook the tires off the line but Tigges shook them worse. Lourie took the lead after the 330-foot mark and kept it the rest of the way. Lourie won the race but he lost lance choice in round two to Von Smith. Margin of victory = 0.003 seconds (approximately 13 inches).

   8 Bobby Martin 5.970 240.21 Q 7 Todd Veney 5.864 244.52
                  0.000 No Time E1 *****WINNER***** 0.495 11.381 74.01
