READING - Pro Stock Bike Round 1 Eliminations

MOHNTON, Pa. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock Bike at the 17th annual Pep Boys NHRA Nationals presented by Greased Lightning:

   9 Shawn Gann          7.225 184.85  Q    8 Angelle Savoie      7.208 181.76

Angelle Savoie is starting eliminations in 8th place, the worst start of her career. The defending champion has faced Shawn Gann three times this year, losing one and winning two. She beat Gann in the final round of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis. Gann left the line too early and drew the red light. He actually ran quicker than Savoie but loses the round. Savoie got a bit out of the groove but stayed with it.

Reggie Showers has qualified for all 11 races this year but has yet to make it past the semifinals. Showers made a career-best run to beat Vose and move into round two.

Craig Treble lost in the final round of the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, his best finish this year. He and Thomas Miceli have not faced each other this year in NHRA Pro Stock Bike competition because this is Miceli's first race. Both riders made good runs but Treble just outpowered Miceli to the finish line.

Matt Hines and Joe DeSantis have not met this season. Hines has made it to the finals four times this season, winning at Gainesville and Englishtown and losing at Houston and Atlanta. DeSantis has made it to the second round twice this year and has not made it to round three. Hines made the first Pro Stock Bike run quicker than 7.100 seconds to take the win.

  15 Sam Hurwitz         7.297 187.89  Q    2 GT Tonglet          7.143 184.40

Sam Hurwitz and Gary Tonglett have not faced each other this year. Hurwitz qualified for four races this year and did not make it out of round one in any of them. Tonglett has made it to the finals three times, winning one and losing two. He qualified for 10 of 11 previous races this year and made it out of round one eight times. Tonglett made a strong run that would have been the quickest in Pro Stock Bike is Hines had not gone 7.09 in the previous pair.

Antron Brown has not faced Chris Reuter in NHRA competition this year. Brown has made it to the finals six times this year, winning three and losing three. Brown got out of the groove on the far right side of the track but shifter problems kept Reuter from taking advantage of Brown's relatively poor run.

The only time that Geno Scali and Steve Johnson have met this season was in the first round at the Matco Tools Supernationals in Englishtown, NJ. Scali won that round but did not make it past round two. Scali was ahead for the first half of the race but Johnson got by him to take the win.

Mike Berry has not yet faced Paul Gast this year. Berry lost to Angelle Savoie in the third round of the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio in June. That was the only time this year he moved past the first round. Gast drifted to the right and had to back off to keep from crossing the center line.
