READING - Federal-Mogul Funny Car Round 2 Eliminations

MOHNTON, Pa. - Results of round 2 eliminations in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the 17th annual Pep Boys NHRA Nationals presented by Greased Lightning:

        Bye                            Q    1 Frank Manzo         5.690 247.97
                                      E1   (D Cox       ) 0.483  5.606 255.92
                                      E2 *****WINNER***** 0.474  5.707 251.39
Manzo had a single run in the first round and he got a bye in round two on his way to the semifinals. He had to make a good run this round only to get lane choice next time around. Manzo slid around the track for the quarter-mile and then blew the blower as he went into the traps.

White beat Gill at the start and was leading the race by three-hundredths of a second at 1,000 feet when his blower blew and put an end to his weekend. Gill won lane choice against Manzo in the semifinals.

Lourie shook the tires hard and had to back off the throttle. Smith shook his tires a bit but stayed with it for the win.

                  0.468  5.910 243.77  E2 *****WINNER***** 0.568  5.637 255.43
Veney got off the line a full tenth of a second before Newberry. He would have won this race but he shook the tires and got out of the groove. Newberry powered by him and won lance choice from Von Smith in the semifinal round.
