CHRRX - Nostalgia Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations
By Darryl Jackman

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Nostalgia Top Fuel at the 10th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion Presented by Automobile Club of Southern California:

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   7 Kirk Kuhns 6.203 229.76 Q 4 Howard Haight 6.140 204.68
 *****WINNER***** 0.559 6.166 228.89 E1 0.525 9.807 88.36
11:02 AM It's Bakersfield! The fly overs are done as the last strains of the National Anthem dies away and the cackle of nitro fills the air. This is what Famoso has always been about. Nitro! Haight goes up in smoke and it's Kuhns that goes to the next round.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   5 Jason Howell 6.143 237.59 Q 1 Gerry Steiner 5.972 247.32
 *****WINNER***** 0.320 8.115 105.96 E1 0.604 7.034 137.11
Steiner was still excited this morning about his five second run on Friday. He says the computer showed him at full throttle for 6.5 seconds. He was after top speed and low ET. Steiner was late and he was all over the lane trying to catch a redlighting Howell. The question is, did he cross the centerline? Word comes over race control that Steiner did cross and it will be Howell with the win.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Bill Dunlap 6.205 220.58 Q 3 Jack Harris 6.128 244.43
 *****WINNER***** 0.582 6.042 233.03 E1 0.621 6.171 240.51
Dunlap qualified with one run this weekend. Harris got in on on his first run but was consistent in the second session. Harris is ambushed again as Dunlap was out on him and out ran the Nitro Thunder car to the top end. Both cars run big mph.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   6 Glenn Hutchison 6.147 230.53 Q 2 Lee Jennings 6.112 228.54
                  0.513 6.179 243.57 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.577 6.111 236.09
Hutchison got a good lead at the hit as he used the pedal clutch for a big lead. Jennings caught him by 1000 feet for the win. Margin of victory = 0.004 seconds (approximately 17 inches). What a drag race!
