Summit Announces Formation of Sport Compact 200-mph Club

GLENDORA, Calif. - Summit Racing Equipment announced the formation of the Summit Sport Compact 200-mph Club, which guarantees $25,000 to the first driver that records a 200-mph pass at an NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series event. After the initial accomplishment, the next nine drivers to eclipse the speed barrier will receive $1,000 and exclusive membership into the select club.

Additionally, the 10 members of the Summit Sport Compact 200-mph Club will receive a custom leather jacket with the 200-mph Club logo on the back with the date, race track and speed of their historic run on the sleeve that displays their achievement to the racing community. Along with that, the 10 drivers will also receive a special 200-mph Club plate and special decals for their car and trailer. After the feat has been achieved by 10 different drivers, their names will be engraved onto a trophy that will be presented to and displayed in the NHRA Motorsports Museum.

"We're really striving to make this an exciting goal," said Blake Burgy, Summit Racing Equipment merchandising manager. "Surpassing 200-mph is the first major goal for import drag racers to achieve and we want to make that a significant accomplishment."

The Summit Sport Compact 200-mph Club is open to any competitors in the NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series' five Heads-up categories. To be awarded the prize, racers must submit a copy of their time-slip and a verification form, signed by an NHRA official and a track official before the run is accepted as valid. Racers also must display special Summit decals on both sides of their car at the time of the historic pass.

"I think this is great for the series and the sport," said import drag racing star Abel Ibarra. "I definitely see somebody running 200-mph at some point next year."
