CHICAGO-2 - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the Inaugural NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.815/201.58, Now #1; Best prior run: 16.855/61.09, Was #33
Right Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 7.260/193.13, Now #26; No Prior Run

Johnson with a 0.689 seconds 60-foot time and he parlayed that into the number one spot with his career best pass here. Shelton made a move toward the centerline.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.861/200.02, Now #7; Best prior run: 12.668/67.62, Was #34
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.845/200.56, Now #4; Best prior run: 8.708/109.47, Was #31

Jeter with his career best pass here and Marnell moved into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 6.907/198.79, Now #20; Best prior run: 12.070/72.06, Was #34
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.974/198.09, Now #24; Best prior run: 8.678/110.79, Was #32

The quickest field for Pro Stock is a 6.880 seconds and we are two cars away from breaking that mark. Smith was real loose right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 8.856/105.65, Now #34; Best prior run: 8.750/109.80, Was #34
Right Lane: Larry Peternel No Time, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.141/192.88, Was #28

Peternel broke on the burnout. Nickens got out of the groove around half track and off the throttle.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.898/200.02, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.676/108.55, Was #33
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 8.881/108.78, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.104/191.92, Was #27

Spiess had a little wiggle around half track and got out of it. Johnson just missed the cut here with a nice looking pass.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.851/200.68, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.152/123.86, Was #33
Right Lane: John Nobile No Time, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.950/200.00, Was #24

Nobile broke on the burnout. Gaines with a 1.009 second 60-foot time and stretches it out from there to get into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 16.400/50.04, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.868/129.60, Was #33
Right Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.934/198.64, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.901/199.26, Was #21

Anderson was out of the groove early and off the throttle. Gillig went in the wrong direction.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.933/198.15, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.168/188.17, Was #31
Right Lane: Ray Franks Runs 6.938/198.26, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.899/198.85, Was #20

Both cars straight and true, but not quick enough to get in the tough field.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence No Time, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.046/195.62, Was #29
Right Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 8.716/107.56, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.893/199.49, Was #17

Lawrence broke on the burnout. Blakeney made a quick move toward the centerline and he got real loose and finally lifted around half track.

Left Lane: Mike Weinle Runs 8.960/105.86, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.016/196.90, Was #28
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 8.629/108.94, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.879/200.41, Was #15

Both cars got real loose and got out of it.

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.912/197.94, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.943/197.57, Was #25
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.878/200.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.876/201.04, Was #14

Richie made a move in the right direction, but not near enough. No help for Morgan.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.859/200.92, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.913/200.56, Was #24
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.999/177.91, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.867/200.77, Was #12

Krisher with problems on the top end and Warren moved him back one spot as he gets into the show. We now have the quickest Pro Stock bump ever with Edwards' 6.879 seconds.

Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 7.845/130.76, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.899/200.47, Was #20
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.892/198.93, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.865/199.17, Was #12

Hammonds got out of the groove and was all over his lane. No help for Pawuk.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.866/200.35, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.884/199.79, Was #17
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.854/200.32, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.863/200.53, Was #10

Jeg got in the show here and bumped out Edwards, Yates moves into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.851/200.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.871/199.79, Was #15
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 7.294/153.06, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.853/201.13, Was #7

Allen with a nice 60-foot time 0.992 seconds to take the number five spot. Martino got close to the centerline.

Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 8.443/114.83, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.863/200.14, Was #12
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.873/201.34, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.853/201.55, Was #7

Patrick with a quick 60-foot time and then got close to the centerline. Alderman with big top end speed to move into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 8.769/105.87, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.828/201.70, Was #2
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.839/200.95, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.845/201.55, Was #3

A couple good looking 60-foot time and then Osborne got out of the groove and clicked it off. Coughlin with his career best pass here, but will stay in the third spot. Kurt with the number one spot and Morgan rounds out the quickest Pro Stock field with a 6.876 seconds.
