Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.817/313.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 11.501/74.09, Was #17
7:20 PM Pedregon with a great sixty foot time, .876, and he jumps all the way to the second spot.
Left Lane: Al Hofmann Runs 5.897/153.26, Now #11; Best prior run: 10.501/83.92, Was #16
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.054/117.71, Now #12; Best prior run: 15.228/74.80, Was #21
Hoffman with a good sixty foot time, .880, and Capps right behind with .896, both go up in smoke about 300 feet out and give up on the runs.
Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.856/312.86, Now #6; Best prior run: 10.147/85.09, Was #17
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 12.141/87.40, Now #20; Best prior run: 12.808/82.90, Was #21
Gilbertson makes a career best pass and moves up to the sixth spot. Johnson hits the throttle and goes up in smoke.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 10.339/91.96, Now #17; Best prior run: 10.126/80.89, Was #17
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 11.153/75.49, Now #19; Best prior run: 12.804/81.10, Was #21
Worsham hits the throttle, goes up in smoke and shuts down. Creasy had problems in the first round and goes up in smoke again right off the line.
Left Lane: Chuck Etchells Runs 10.739/77.56, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.859/122.89, Was #15
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.879/309.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 11.562/71.70, Was #20
Etchells breaks the tires loose about 100 feet out and gives up on the run. Toliver hits the throttle and starts drifting toward the wall. He just keeps it off, the header flames were hitting the wall as he went through the lights., and jumps into the top half of the field for now.
Right Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.904/311.05, Now #8; Best prior run: 10.738/80.94, Was #19
Cannon hits the throttle and drifts toward the center-line. He gets it back in the groove and gets in the eighth spot for now.
Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.844/280.19, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.179/218.09, Was #10
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 8.830/122.28, Now #18; Best prior run: 8.468/108.68, Was #18
Densham goes right down the groove and moves up to the fifth position. Gray goes up in smoke about 100 feet out .
Left Lane: Jim Epler Runs 13.104/71.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.026/273.44, Was #10
Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.906/305.77, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.275/118.65, Was #16
Epler gets about 200 feet out and goes up in smoke. Skuza goes right down the groove and gets off the bump into the tenth spot.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.800/316.90, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.848/308.85, Was #6
Right Lane: Bruce Sarver Runs 5.266/294.43, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.272/297.94, Was #13
Great run by Force, right down the groove, and he takes the pole for now. Sarver loses traction about 200 feet out, pedals, and gets the tires.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.839/315.42, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.828/310.70, Was #5
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.750/323.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.801/316.82, Was #2
Pedregon makes a great pass and gets in the fifth spot. Bazemore makes his career best pass and the quickest pass in Funny Car history to take the pole. He will need a to run a 4.795 or quicker to back it up for a national record.
