MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the 14th annual AutoZone NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil:

  16 Rickie Smith        6.947 198.50  Q    1 Jim Yates           6.883 198.85

Smith with bye here as Jim Yates, No. 1 qualifier will not compete. Yates became ill yesterday and is still undergoing tests at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis to determine the source of his illness. He is scheduled to see a physician this morning. While no diagnosis has been made, he is reported to be resting comfortably and his vital signs are good. Yates will receive 38 points today in his quest for a third NHRA Winston Pro Stock championship. Smith straight down broadway with his best pass of the weekend.

They met in round one in Brainerd and Jeter won that one. Jeg avenges that lost with a better reaction time and quicker et.

Morgan with the hole shot win here. Margin of victory = 0.020 seconds (approximately 6 feet).

Marnell with the hole shot win out of the gate first and held on to win. Patrick made a move toward the centerline.

   6 Warren Johnson      6.920 198.99  Q   11 Bruce Allen         6.928 198.35

The third hole shot in a row as Allen drilled Johnson on the tree. Jim Yates will buy dinner for Allen as WJ loses a chance to put some ground between him and Yates.

Krisher out of the gate first, but then got real loose just before half track and Kurt drove around him.

   4 Mike Edwards        6.918 199.35  Q   13 Mark Pawuk          6.932 198.44

Edwards with the slight hole shot and then he got real loose just like Krisher and had to lift. Pawuk with his first round win since Sonoma.

Anderson with the starting line advantage, but not enough to hold off the hard charging Osborne. Margin of victory = 0.013 seconds (approximately 4 feet). Smith with lane choice over Coughlin Jr., Morgan with his choice over Pawuk, Osborne gets to pick over Marnell, and Allen will have his choice over K. Johnson.
