MEMPHIS - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 14th annual AutoZone NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 7.019/196.70, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.083/195.51, Was #32
Right Lane: Mike Weinle Runs 7.138/194.02, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.205/192.85, Was #33

It is sunny out and the temperature is up around 84 degrees, humidity is 55% and the barometer is 30.07 inches. There was some movement in the Truck category, but I don't look for a lot of changes here.

Left Lane: Danny Coffman Runs 7.087/194.91, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.019/196.10, Was #31
Right Lane: Brad Klein Runs 7.114/194.21, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.053/194.46, Was #32



Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 7.867/125.54, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.006/191.43, Was #27
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 7.033/195.87, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.008/196.47, Was #29

Gaines was loose early and never got it to hook up, getting way out of shape at half track. He did a great job saving it.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.042/196.39, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.991/197.80, Was #26
Right Lane: Greg Thomas Runs 7.483/147.50, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.007/196.59, Was #28

Thomas made a quick move toward the centerline and reeled it back in, but then around half track got real loose and out of the groove and close to the wall.

Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 7.012/196.67, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.963/196.93, Was #23
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 20.612/37.83, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.982/196.33, Was #25

Grant had problems right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 7.466/146.29, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.961/199.40, Was #21
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 7.011/196.82, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.966/197.42, Was #24

Alderman chattered the tires out to 150 feet, and will not make the show.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 7.042/197.62, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.958/198.70, Was #20
Right Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 9.334/100.19, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.963/197.28, Was #22

Coughlin with a lot of tire shake and made a quick move toward the centerline.

Left Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 9.540/97.98, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.955/197.08, Was #19
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.999/197.77, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.947/198.38, Was #17

Martino will not make the show.

Left Lane: Ray Franks Runs 7.021/196.59, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.948/197.36, Was #18
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.954/198.47, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.947/198.50, Was #16

Franks is the only one that can knock out Smith and he does not do it.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.961/197.91, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.947/198.82, Was #15
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 8.952/106.55, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.932/198.44, Was #13

Pawuk got out of the groove right before half track.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.967/199.40, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.940/198.61, Was #14
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 11.909/73.26, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.928/198.35, Was #11

Allen with big time tire shake and he clicks it off. No help for Kurt.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.979/197.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.931/199.05, Was #12
Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 16.243/50.28, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.925/197.86, Was #10

Patrick shook the tires hard and clicked it off. Morgan with a quick move toward the centerline.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.955/198.29, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.920/198.32, Was #8
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.972/198.15, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.925/198.85, Was #9

Finally a side by side drag race and if things stay the same this will be a first round match up tomorrow.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 7.243/163.31, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.920/198.99, Was #6
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.980/198.41, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.920/198.76, Was #7

WJ with tire chatter and then slowed on the top end.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.948/198.26, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.918/199.35, Was #4
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 8.489/113.99, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.919/198.79, Was #5

Hammonds got out of the groove.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.945/198.73, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.915/199.37, Was #3
Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 7.088/176.97, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.914/199.76, Was #2

Krisher with quickest pass of the session.
