FMDRS 6-6 - Federal-Mogul Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Michael L. Jex

MEDFORD, Ore. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the Snap On Tools Valley Thunder Weekend listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Matt Goss No Time, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.775/205.51, Was #8
Right Lane: Clint Thompson No Time, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.464/106.67, Was #6

This was wild - the finish cones got moved by Thompson, then Matt Goss T-boned the finish line cones. As a result neither times count, and we move on to the next pair of cars. We'll be down for a few minutes while the safety safari replaces the cones. 7:34 PM

Left Lane: Dave Germain Runs 6.446/212.22, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.488/214.23, Was #7
Right Lane: Larry Miner Runs 5.888/243.38, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.023/228.47, Was #4

It's getting dark here, a nice sunset setting a perfect backdrop for these cars. Both drivers improved with nice runs right down the middle of the lane moving up the ladder. Best of all, the cars will be back one more time tonight.

Left Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 10.866/74.47, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.077/238.37, Was #5
Right Lane: Pat Austin Runs 5.737/248.39, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.940/244.48, Was #4

Pat and ProMax didn't want Uncle Bucky Austin to have the track record - this run was so good it looked almost boring from the tower - No wiggles, No movement, just a string from start to stripe, the first 5.70 in history here. Wow.

Left Lane: Bucky Austin Runs 5.818/247.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.826/247.23, Was #2
Right Lane: John Weaver Runs 5.854/238.05, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.890/241.83, Was #4

Pat Austin got the track record, this pair did the fastest side-by-side blast down broadway we've seen this weekend in Federal Mogul Funny Car.

With one round to go later tonight, Pat Austin is on top, and Matt Goss is on the bubble. 7:48 PM
