INDY - Pro Stock Truck Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 5 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Samuel Tompkins Runs 7.738/175.14, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.708/176.01, Was #33

Samuel took the crooked route to the finish - his weekend is done.

Left Lane: Peter Berner Runs 7.665/175.27, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.704/174.37, Was #32
Right Lane: Michael Graves Runs 7.916/169.40, Now #35; Best prior run: 7.897/169.25, Was #35

Left Lane: Jody Schmeisser Runs 7.697/174.62, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.659/175.89, Was #31
Right Lane: Chip Ippolito No Time, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.715/173.05, Was #34

Ippolito broke right at the hit. He came to a stop at midtrack, but finally got the motor restarted. The timers had reset, so Chip got no time.

Left Lane: Douglas Harris Runs 7.665/174.57, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.644/175.05, Was #30
Right Lane: Mark Linebarrier Runs 7.693/175.62, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.610/176.67, Was #28

As hot as it is outside, the mountain these trucks will have to climb to bump in is looming very, very large....


Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 7.760/173.14, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.616/177.44, Was #29
Right Lane: Rick Brown Runs 7.637/177.44, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.601/176.28, Was #27

On the Compulink system McGaha's name is spelled "McMaha", but in the crew chief column it's "Lester McGaha". FastNews went with McGaha. If this is in error, our apologies.

Left Lane: Vinny Barone Runs 7.575/177.88, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.566/177.84, Was #23
Right Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 7.615/177.00, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.590/177.44, Was #26

Boom Boom Barone's weekend is done - but the truck is still for sale.

Left Lane: Scott Tidwell Runs 7.533/178.54, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.560/177.95, Was #22
Right Lane: Jim Kennedy Runs 7.625/177.39, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.588/177.14, Was #25

Ouch! Tidwell just missed getting into the field. He had a great start, a 1.059, but wasn't able to find the .05 he needed at the top end to bump out Scott Perin.

Left Lane: Jeff Naiser Runs 13.812/61.93, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.555/177.63, Was #21
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 9.757/96.12, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.569/178.00, Was #24

Naiser's truck made a hard move to the right, Brogdon had so much tire shake he had to lift to see where he was going.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.618/178.68, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.550/179.49, Was #20

Left Lane: Lou Ficco Runs 7.555/178.95, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.546/178.17, Was #19
Right Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 7.594/178.78, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.523/179.16, Was #15

Ficco has a chance - but the run will have to be close to perfect to bump Perin... Lou spent a lot of time looking at the starting line area before the start of this session.

Not this time. Both drivers had 1.07 plus short times, and are unable to move up the ladder.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 7.571/178.66, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.534/178.59, Was #18
Right Lane: Craig Eaton Runs 14.722/105.39, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.523/179.88, Was #14

Tire shake claimed Eaton, the sun and track temp were the main issues for Haas.

Left Lane: Scott Perin Runs 7.543/179.37, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.527/178.95, Was #16
Right Lane: Bart Price Runs 7.524/160.24, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.515/179.88, Was #11

Perin may be able to survive on the bubble-bump, but we're sure he'll be striving for a move up. They both run some of the better times of the session, but will stay 16th and 11th. Perin will have to sweat things out for the rest of the session.

Left Lane: Dale Eaton Runs 18.852/43.10, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.522/179.90, Was #13
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 7.528/179.37, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.512/179.37, Was #10

Left Lane: Don Smith Runs 7.509/179.47, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.516/178.87, Was #12
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.490/180.12, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.509/179.59, Was #9

Just when you think no one will dance up the ladder you see efforts like these - great runs for both teams in these conditions.

Left Lane: John Coughlin Runs 14.928/56.08, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.504/179.28, Was #9
Right Lane: Todd Patterson Runs 7.529/179.80, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.499/179.95, Was #8

Coughlin shook and lifted, Patterson gave things a try, but to no avail.

Left Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 7.589/178.66, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.492/179.61, Was #6
Right Lane: Victor Cagnazzi Runs 7.526/179.56, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.495/180.26, Was #7

Daniels's 1.112 60-foot time tells the story - it's tough out there.

Left Lane: John Lingenfelter Runs 7.523/180.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.490/179.83, Was #5
Right Lane: Jeff Gracia Runs 7.533/179.56, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.486/180.00, Was #3

Lingenfelter's paint job on his Summit Racing GMC looks really nice in the sunshine - Purple, Green, and a ton of other colors shimmering in the bright light. His 60-foot time was better than Daniels, but not enough to improve.

Right Lane: Mike Coughlin No Time, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.461/180.62, Was #1

Mike had a big problem at the starting line - oil on the track. He's pushed back, so we're done with qualifying. On top is Mike Coughlin, he'll race Scott Perin. Number 2 is Bob Panella Jr, he'll race Joe Pigford.

In the other match-ups it will be Jeff Garcia and Craig Eaton, Taylor Lastor will race Dale Eaton, John Lingenfelter will race Bart Price, Randy Daniels and Greg Stanfield will duel, Victor Cagnazzi and Don Smith will run and finally number eight Todd Patterson will race John Coughlin. 3:42 PM
