INDY - Pro Stock Round 1 Eliminations
By Michael L. Jex

CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals:

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Brad Jeter 6.899 199.32 Q 9 Mark Pawuk 6.900 199.32
 *****WINNER***** 0.424 6.959 197.80 E1 0.494 7.001 197.42
11:30 AM 45 Factory Hot Rods attempted to qualify for this race, just 35 percent or 16 of them got into the program. Jeter drilled the Summit Cowboy at the tree - .07 at the start is a mile in this class. 1.039 short time for Jeter.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   7 Tom Hammonds 6.895 199.73 Q 10 Mike Edwards 6.903 199.46
                  0.460 6.974 197.71 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.476 6.952 198.20
Hammonds has run very well this weekend, he bumped out Larry Morgan to get into the program. Edwards was late - Hammonds drifted over towards the wall out of the groove. Edwards didn't catch Hammonds till just before the finish, the margin of victory was just six thousandths of a second, about 21 inches!

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   6 Bruce Allen 6.891 198.90 Q 11 George Marnell 6.904 199.40
 *****WINNER***** 0.500 6.951 198.26 E1 0.488 6.997 197.42
Marnell is celebrating his birthday this weekend, it won't include a US Nationals title. Allen's 60-foot time is the best of the round (so far) a 1.036.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   4 Ron Krisher 6.889 199.97 Q 13 Kurt Johnson 6.905 199.32
 *****WINNER***** 0.428 6.947 199.29 E1 0.531 6.942 198.61
Wow. Krisher's holeshot looked more like a mortar blast. The hole was big, and KJ just didn't have enough real estate out there to have a chance. Margin of victory = 0.098 seconds (approximately 29 feet). KJ had the best short time so far today - 1.031.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   3 Warren Johnson 6.885 200.50 Q 14 V. Gaines 6.906 198.79
 *****WINNER***** 0.529 6.978 196.04 E1 0.589 7.023 197.48
Two more late lights - V's was slower. WJ has run over 200 mph twice so far this weekend, but conditions are such if we see any more it will be later in the afternoon - perhaps the final round.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   2 Greg Anderson 6.880 199.91 Q 15 Hurley Blakeney 6.912 199.14
 *****WINNER***** 0.508 6.948 198.35 E1 0.571 6.968 197.57
Hurley's Ford made a good lap, it just wasn't enough to beat the Pontiac in the other lane. Anderson went 1.030 to 60-foot, Hurley's was a 1.035. Anderson will race Mike Edwards in round two, and Anderson will have lane choice.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   5 Jim Yates 6.889 199.82 Q 12 Tom Martino 6.905 199.52
 *****WINNER***** 0.502 6.948 198.88 E1 0.477 9.610 97.67
Shake Shake Shake! Martino's tires were going square, he had no choice but to lift when the Century 21 machine started skating around. Yates had a good top end charge, the car spun the tire coming off the starting line. Yates will race Krisher in round two.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   1 Mark Osborne 6.879 200.68 Q 16 Darrell Alderman 6.920 199.91
 *****WINNER***** 0.469 6.937 199.55 E1 0.502 6.982 197.42
Darrell rolled in and lit up both beams, giving Osborne just seven seconds to get things going. All the strategy backfired for Darrell when he lost .034 at the start. Osborne ran low ET of the round to make it an even bigger margin. Osborne will race Jeter in round two. 11:51 AM
