INDY - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #4

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 7.107/192.28, Now #39; Best prior run: 7.086/193.96, Was #39
Right Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 7.003/196.53, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.053/195.79, Was #37

Under sunny skies the temperature is 71 degrees, humidity is 79% and the barometer is 30.06 inches. Shelton with a little improvement, but not near enough.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.800/197.74, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.966/197.28, Was #24
Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.879/200.68, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.903/198.44, Was #3

Nobile just sat there and spun the tires when the light turned green. Osborne launched hard and drove it on through for the number one spot.

Left Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 7.089/194.44, Now #42; Best prior run: 7.195/192.25, Was #43
Right Lane: Carl Beal Runs 12.043/66.26, Now #45; Best prior run: 11.420/77.44, Was #45

Peternel with his career best speed here, and got the car into the 7.0's, but it is a long way from the 6.93-bump spot.

Left Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 7.008/197.42, Now #36; Best prior run: 7.087/196.22, Was #40
Right Lane: Danny Coffman Runs 7.037/196.16, Now #38; Best prior run: 7.037/195.31, Was #37

Coffman matches his best pass of the weekend, and will have one more shot to make the show.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 6.941/198.29, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.971/196.96, Was #25
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 7.000/196.64, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.003/195.53, Was #35

Trumble with his season best mph pass here, while Spiess laid down his best pass et and mph of the season here.

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.974/196.96, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.990/196.56, Was #32
Right Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 6.912/199.14, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.978/197.57, Was #29

Blakeney goes from outside the show to the number nine spot with a great looking pass. Benza with a little improvement, but not enough.

Left Lane: Ray Franks Runs 6.947/198.41, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.973/197.62, Was #27
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham No Time, Now #43; Best prior run: 7.176/191.43, Was #43

Cunningham made a quick move toward the centerline and collected the 330-foot cone and followed Franks across the finish line. Franks with a big jump, but still not enough.

Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.972/197.45, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.979/196.96, Was #31

Gillig picked up 0.007 seconds and three spots on the ladder.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.945/198.29, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.976/196.96, Was #31
Right Lane: Mike Weinle No Time, Now #41; Best prior run: 7.088/193.49, Was #41

Weinle broke on the burnout and is pushed off. Johnson made a big jump here, but still has a long way to go.

Left Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.899/199.32, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.943/198.12, Was #19
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.944/198.90, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.996/198.03, Was #33

Jeter with a great looking pass he went from outside up into the top half of the field. Coughlin with improvement, but not enough.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.973/197.39, Now #31; Best prior run: 6.975/196.85, Was #32
Right Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 7.015/195.62, Now #37; Best prior run: 7.023/196.42, Was #37

Left Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 11.585/76.22, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.964/197.83, Was #28
Right Lane: Larry Nance Runs 6.979/196.76, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.956/197.65, Was #25

Nickens made a quick move toward the centerline and then back toward the wall before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.904/199.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.920/198.58, Was #13
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.925/198.58, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.960/198.35, Was #27

This was a good side-by-side drag race and Morgan was able to get in the show for now and that bumped out Jeg Coughlin. Marnell got into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 9.257/101.38, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.951/197.57, Was #24
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 7.011/195.19, Now #33; Best prior run: 6.986/197.05, Was #33

Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.895/199.73, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.939/198.38, Was #19
Right Lane: Ben Watson No Time, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.957/197.68, Was #27

Hammonds goes from the Outhouse to the Penthouse with this pass. Watson got timed-out on the tree waiting too long to get staged.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.935/198.85, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.934/198.20, Was #19
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.920/199.91, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.925/199.23, Was #16

No help for Koretsky and Alderman got off the bubble here.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.880/199.91, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.913/199.52, Was #13

Anderson with a 1.013 60-foot time and that is the best of the round, so far. He jumped up to the number two spot.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 9.345/100.96, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.927/199.29, Was #18
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.891/198.90, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.919/198.85, Was #14

Jeg was real loose right off the starting line and finally had to click it. Allen got into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.900/199.32, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.921/198.44, Was #16
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.903/199.46, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.905/200.29, Was #9

Well Pawuk breathe a sigh of relief here as he got into the top half of the field and if nothing changes between now and tomorrow these two will race each other in round one.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.889/199.82, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.907/198.99, Was #14
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.924/199.20, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.905/199.52, Was #11

Yates into the top half of the show and you now have to have a 6.80 something to get in to top half of the show.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.935/200.02, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.906/198.79, Was #14
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.898/199.85, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.889/199.97, Was #4

Gaines with no help on this run, but still the big top end speed.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.921/199.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.905/199.32, Was #13
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.906/199.94, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.885/200.50, Was #3

No help for either of the Johnsons here and that wraps up this session of Pro Stock qualifying and they will have one more shot to get into the show.
