Hagan, Kalitta and Butner Emerge Victorious at Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals

POMONA, Calif. -- The season-opening event of the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series concluded Sunday at the
58th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com at Auto Club Raceway
Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Bo Butner (Pro Stock) were victorious in their
respective categories at the first of 24 events during the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.
Doug Kalitta, Mac Tools dragster, 3.779 seconds, 324.28 mph defeated Tony Schumacher, U.S. Army
dragster, 4.715 seconds, 145.93 mph.
This is his 44th win of his career, third at Pomona and second at the season-opening race.
Matt Hagan, Mopar Express Lane Dodge Charger, 3.823 seconds, 335.90 mph defeated Robert Hight, Auto
Club Chevy Camaro, 3.866 seconds, 336.99 mph.
Hagan won this event in 2017, he has six career wins at Pomona, three at the season-opening race,
and he was the No. 1 qualifier.
Bo Butner, Jim Butner Auto Chevy Camaro, 6.549 seconds, 209.62 mph defeated Jason Line, Summit
Racing Camaro, 6.568 seconds, 209.59 mph.
This is his first win at the season opening event and he is the 2017 Pro Stock world champion.
Brittany Force Involved In Incident
Top Fuel racer Brittany Force, Yorba Linda, Calif., was involved in an incident during the first
round of eliminations for the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
Force's dragster went out of control during the pass, made contact with the retaining wall and came
to rest past the finish line. She was responsive, speaking with medical personnel, and was
transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
