Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

POMONA, Calif. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals:

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,339 feet, track temperature 80 degrees.

When he won in Las Vegas Terry McMillen became the 104th different driver to win an NHRA national event in Top Fuel. He is now one of 41 drivers who only won one race in their career. Of course he isn't done. Richie Crampton starts the day with a career record of 74-70.

McMillen and Crampton have each won 1 times against the other in prior events.

MvMillen with a slight starting line advantage and never trailed increasing his lead at every incremental down the track. Crampton with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Richie Crampton's MOV: 0.0398 seconds (approximately 19 feet).

McMillen with a good looking pass, just off his qualifying E.T. in the losing effort.

This is the first time Reed and Millican have faced each other in eliminations.

Millican with the slight starting starting line advantage, but is up in smoke right at the hit and pedaled it and got it to hook up and take the win.

Reed was up in smoke right at the hit and car just idled down the track.

This is the eighth No. 1 qualifying spot for Brittany Force. She has never won from the top spot. The No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel has won this race four times in the last 40 years. When Brittany fouled out in the finals in Las Vegas it was only the 23rd time in 852 races that the final round in Top Fuel was decided by a red light. Terry Haddock is making his 81st start.

Force is 2 - 0 against Haddock in prior events.

Force with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. She runs low E.T. of race day for the win and lane choice over Crampton in round two. Force took the point lead with the round win.

Haddock lost traction and the car was sideways before he clicked it off.

Torrence with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. He runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win and lane choice over Brown in the next round. Torrence with the round win takes back the point lead.

Tony Schumacher has won this race four times and they all came in consecutive years from 2004 to 2007. He has four other runner-up finishes at this race. Shawn Langdon won here in 2013 and 2015. Shawn has won 244 rounds in Top Fuel and that ties him with Eddie Hill for 10th place on the all-time dragster list. Eddie won his in 262 races while Shawn won his in 207 races.

Schumacher is 16 - 13 against Langdon in prior events.

Langdon with the starting line advantage and the power to hold on for the hole shot win. Shawn Langdon's MOV: 0.0106 seconds (approximately 5 feet). Langdon banged the blower as he crossed the finish line. He will give up lane choice to Pritchett in the next round. Langdon with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

Schumacher was just a few ticks off his qualified time in the losing effort.

Doug Kalitta is the defending event champion. Wayne Newby is 4-9 in his TF career and three of those losses have come against Doug Kalitta.

Kalitta is 3 - 0 against Newby in prior events.

Kalitta with a slight starting line advantage and then runs low E.T. of race day to take the win. Kalitta runs top speed of the event in the win, as Kalitta runs his quickest pass of the weekend. He will have lane choice over Millican in the next round.

Newby is just off his qualifying time in the losing effort.
