Empire Dragway Edges Quaker City Motorsports Park for IHRA Division 3 Summit Team Finals Championship

It came down to just two points.

Empire Dragway edged Quaker City Motorsports Park 51-49 for the team championship at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 3 (North Stars) Summit Team Finals last weekend at Keystone Raceway Park.

It was closely contested with the home track of Keystone just six points behind and Dragway 42 nine points behind the winner. Other tracks who participated were: Lancaster Dragway, I-64 Dragway, Thompson Motorsports Park, Beaver Springs Dragway and Skyview Drags.

Leading up to the main event, racers participated in Gambler's races and "best of" awards.

Main Event:
Top
Chuck Sanders from I-64 Dragway matched his dial-in time with a 6.298-second run at 108.49 mph to score the Top victory. He had a solid .012 reaction time, while his final-round opponent Ron Stayer Jr. barely red-lighted with a -.009 start. Stayer raced down the track in 5.085 seconds at 131.81 mph.

Mod
Dale Eckert from Lancaster Dragway won on a holeshot as he and final-round opponent, John Gregory representing Dragway 42, both matched their dial-in times. Eckert had a .006 reaction time to go along with his 7.145-second elapsed time at 93.52 mph. Gregory finished in 6.108 seconds and 114.36 mph.

Street
David Mann from Thompson Motorsports Park captured the Street division victory when Joe Tharp Jr. from Quaker City Motorsports Park red-lighted. Mann, who had a .030 reaction time, posted a 7.725-second run at 84.91 mph. Tharp ended with an 8.103-second pass and 86.09 mph.

Junior Dragster
Thompson Motorsports Park had another winner with Ethan Steding, who had a 9.353-second run at 68.01 mph along with a .015 reaction time. Jamie McBride Jr. from Keystone Motorsports Park finished with a 7.995 elapsed time at 79.58 mph.

Bike
Patrick Vaughn from Empire Dragway was the winner on two wheels with a 5.811-second run at 115.98 mph along with a .043 reaction time. Tabitha Gitlins from Quaker City Motorsports Park went down the track in 5.881 seconds at 119.17 mph after a .155 reaction time.

Team Captains Race
Beaver Bob McCardle from Beaver Springs Dragway won on a hole shot with a .047 reaction time to go along with his 9.540 elapsed time and 66.45 mph. Runner-up Gary Harper from Dragway 42 had a 12.752-second pass at 55.33 mph with a .113 reaction time.

Friday's Gambler's Race
Box - Josh Rietscha (Keystone) 5.026 on a 5.01 dial-in, .020 reaction time defeated Leon Peasley (Beaver Springs) 5.823 on a 5.81 dial-in, .033 reaction time.

No Box - Mark Romeo (Keystone) 6.701 on a 6.71 dial-in, .067 reaction time defeated John Cira Jr. (Empire) 7.503 on a 7.52 dial-in, .029 reaction time.

Junior - Thomas Wybrial (Keystone) 9.076 on a 9.04 dial-in, .091 reaction time defeated Darian Wright (I-64) 8.295 on an 8.20 dial-in, .124 reaction time.

Bike - Paul Samora (Quaker) 5.781 on a 5.80 dial-in, .-030 reaction time defeated Lucas Salemi (Lancaster) 6.475 on a 6.54 dial-in, -.003 reaction time.
