Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 3.987/261.37, Now #10; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 28.57 inches, adjusted altitude 3,567 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Novelli with his first pass of the weekend...He with a good looking pass until on the top end when it pitched the blower belt. He goes to the number ten spot. Luigi Novelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.232, 660ft-3.148/274.05 mph.

Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.845/156.88, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.581/182.87, Now #12; No Prior Run

A couple more drivers that sat out yesterday.

Chrisman dropped a cylinder right at the hit on the left side and then clicked it off.

Haddock also dropped cylinder early and stayed with it a little longer than Chrisman, but still clicked it off early

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 9.360/87.71, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.859/265.43, Was #9
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.261/264.80, Now #12; No Prior Run

Langdon with problems right at the hit and shut off.

Karamesines was trailing parts and pieces early, but still made a full pass. Chris Karamesines' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.353, 660ft-3.372/245.81 mph.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.814/328.06, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.768/328.22, Was #8
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Jr. Runs 9.211/88.40, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.664/157.78, Was #14

Palmer with another good looking pass, straight down the groove. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.077/287.29 mph.

Coughlin Jr.'s butterflies on the blower never opened when he stomped on the gas. He lifted and coasted on down the track.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.749/325.06, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.723/321.73, Was #7
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.825/312.64, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.053/239.87, Was #11

Brown launched hard and was straight down the groove with a nice pass in the heat of the day. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.133, 660ft-3.010/289.51 mph.

McMillen started to drop cylinders just past half track, but stayed with it. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.058/280.08 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.716/326.48, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.706/324.12, Was #5
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.760/327.11, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.709/330.15, Was #6

Millican launched hard and kept it hooked up to make the quickest pass of the day. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.107, 660ft-2.983/290.76 mph.

Torrence is straight down the groove with a nice pass. Torrence with the third quickest pass of the day. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.026/291.07 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.756/327.59, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.685/333.16, Was #2
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 5.247/132.87, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.695/329.42, Was #4

Force was straight down the groove with a good looking pass. She makes the third quickest pass of the session. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.144, 660ft-3.021/291.01 mph.

Schumacher started to lose traction just before the 330-foot mark and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 4.670/155.65, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.640/330.63, Was #1
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.766/329.75, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.694/330.31, Was #3

Pritchett started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off.

Kalitta was straight down the groove with a good looking pass. He has the fifth quickest pass of the session. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.147, 660ft-3.033/288.21 mph.
