Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.859/265.43, Now #7; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines No Time, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.54 inches, adjusted altitude 3,272 feet.

Langdon launched hard and was on a great pass until around the 1/8 mile mark when it started mixing up cylinders. Then the engine let go with a huge explosion, but the word is there is no oil on the track. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.136, 660ft-3.031/280.37 mph.

Karamesines was on a good pass and then it started drifting out of the groove and collected the finish line cones. Chris Karamesines' incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.343, 660ft-3.338/253.33 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.723/321.73, Now #4; Best prior run: 10.926/62.50, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Jr. Runs 4.664/157.78, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.782/87.00, Was #10

Brown was straight down the groove with a good clean pass to go to the number four spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-2.980/292.77 mph.

Coughlin appeared to be on a good pass and then the engine went silent around half track.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.768/328.22, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.180/209.82, Was #9
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.053/239.87, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.171/140.71, Was #11

Palmer launched hard and kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to make his career quickest and fastest pass to move up the ladder one spot. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.137, 660ft-3.030/286.68 mph.

McMillen had some strange flames and then after the half track mark it started mixing up cylinders and he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.706/324.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.761/324.67, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.695/329.42, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.754/325.53, Was #6

This was a great side-by-side drag race.

Millican was straight down the groove and hooked up and he makes his quickest pass this season to go to the number three spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.100, 660ft-2.966/290.88 mph.

Schumacher launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.115, 660ft-2.967/294.82 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.685/333.16, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.731/326.79, Was #7
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.694/330.31, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.711/314.68, Was #5

This was a great side-by side drag race.

Force kept the header flames shooting high over the rear wing all the way down the track to go to the number two spot. He has a big top end speed and she sets the track speed record. That speed ties Brown for the third fastest pass in the history of the sport. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.104, 660ft-2.961/295.01 mph.

Kalitta was right there with her to go to the number three spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.103, 660ft-2.965/294.11 mph.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.640/330.63, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.677/331.53, Was #1
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.729/329.02, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.709/330.15, Was #6

Pritchett launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight and hooked up to make the quickest pass in the history of the sport. She sets the National E.T. record. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.822 sec., 330ft-2.077, 660ft-2.920/298.87 mph.

Torrence with another good pass, but will not improve. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.127, 660ft-2.994/290.69 mph.
