LAS VEGAS -- Jim Bruns of Bremerton, Wash., and Mark Kidd of Boise, Idaho, claimed overall championships in their respective classes at last weekend's inaugural Wild, Wild West Thanksgiving Classic at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Bruns (Super Pro) and Kidd (Pro) will receive a champion's jacket from The Strip as well as a carburetor from Demon Carburetor.
The Strip at LVMS will present the second annual late-season, high-dollar event -- renamed the 2003 Las Vegas E.T. Championships -- on Nov. 13-16, 2003. The four-day event will open on Thursday, Nov. 13, with a Test 'n' Tune and the Road to Vegas Showdown. The Road to Vegas Showdown is a $1,000-to-win, winner-take-all event, open to all NHRA member track Super Pro champions who pre-enter for the weekend. There will be no entry fee for the Road to Vegas Showdown.
The 2003 Las Vegas E.T. Championships will pay $5,000-to-win in the Super Pro category on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The event once again will be sponsored by George Howard's B&M Racer's Appreciation Series. Howard will provide event winner trophies, contingency awards and other prizes.
"We really appreciate the support we received from George Howard and John Spar of the B&M Series in producing our 2002 event," said Chris Blair, LVMS' director of drag racing operations. "This was the first time the B&M Series sanctioned an event outside of George Howard Promotions and everyone was extremely pleased with the outcome of the race.
"We faced some challenges in getting the race completed due to Saturday's rain and the obvious conflicts of hosting a major race on Thanksgiving weekend," Blair added. "But when all was said and done, we were pleased with the outcome of the inaugural event. We are committed to making this bigger and better for 2003."
