Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.843/307.86, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.323/74.41, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.08 inches, adjusted altitude 2,092 feet, track temperature 79 degrees.

Millican was straight down the groove with a nice pass until right in the lights when there was a lot of engine smoke. He gets into the show with his quickest pass of the weekend, up to the number 14 spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.151, 660ft-3.061/275.79 mph.


Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 9.507/62.27, Now #19; Best prior run: 14.774/24.24, Was #19
Right Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 8.729/63.53, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.093/286.44, Was #17

Palmer shook hard right at the hit and clicked it off. Chrisman started to shake right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.329/200.62, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.154/225.41, Was #18
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.850/309.34, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.866/303.50, Was #15

Faria made a quick move toward the centerline and he reeled it in and then it started mixing up cylinders before he clicked it off. He will not get in the show. buff with a real nice pass, straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.157, 660ft-3.070/274.61 mph.

Left Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 3.872/313.58, Now #16; Best prior run: 3.902/309.20, Was #16
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.786/318.09, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.821/320.28, Was #11

Frigo with a good clean pass with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number 16 spot. Sidnei Frigo's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.101/276.92 mph. Crampton launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number nine spot. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.140, 660ft-3.032/285.53 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.806/321.50, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.838/323.66, Was #13
Right Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.842/301.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.817/320.05, Was #11

McMillen launched hard and keep it hooked up to run his career quickest pass to move up the ladder a couple spots. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.051/280.19 mph. Pritchett with another good clean pass, but will not improve. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.167, 660ft-3.076/280.25 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.862/312.50, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.830/321.96, Was #13
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.781/321.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.778/326.24, Was #8

Grubnic with clean pass, but will not improve and will start from the number 13 spot. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.088/274.27 mph. Force with another great looking pass, just a few ticks off her pass from earlier today. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.131, 660ft-3.032/282.95 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.041/229.43, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.793/320.89, Was #10
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.845/311.85, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.774/324.59, Was #7

Schumacher appeared to be on a good pass and the header flames went out just before the finish line and he will start from the number ten spot. alBalooshi had a hole out right from the hit, but stayed with it. He will not improve and will start from the number seven spot and will face Schumacher in round one tomorrow.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.768/323.04, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.768/324.51, Was #5
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 9.419/78.40, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.773/329.02, Was #6

Massey launched hard and keep it hooked up to match his qualifying time with the quickest pass of the session. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.135, 660ft-3.022/285.83 mph. Massey will start from the number five spot and will face Pritchett in round one. Torrence is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. He will start from the number six spot and will face McMillen in round one.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.743/328.14, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.761/322.58, Was #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.713/327.98, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.753/327.19, Was #3

Vandergriff with great looking pass...it appeared to have quick flash of flame just past the finish line. Vandergriff moves up to the number three spot. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.833 sec., 330ft-2.122, 660ft-3.004/286.74 mph. Kalitta launched hard and keep it hooked up and hitting on all eight all the way down the track to go to the number one spot. Kalitta runs the third quickest pass in the history of Top Fuel and sets the track E.T. record. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.825 sec., 330ft-2.105, 660ft-2.978/289.32 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.735/324.67, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.731/326.00, Was #2
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.715/326.79, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.746/328.70, Was #4

Brown with another great looking pass, but gets bumped back by one spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.114, 660ft-2.992/286.86 mph. Langdon launched hard and had header flames shooting high over the rear wing to go to the number two spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.114, 660ft-2.982/289.32 mph.
