Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.869/306.19, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.866/303.50, Was #12

Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 1,682 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Buff chattered the tires right at the hit and then was drifting out of the groove toward the centerline, but reeled it in for another good pass. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.165, 660ft-3.082/272.67 mph.

Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.093/286.44, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 14.774/24.24, Now #14; No Prior Run

Chrisman was on a good pass until in the lights when appeared to pop. He makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in the show for now. Steven Chrisman's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.262, 660ft-3.257/254.18 mph. Palmer shakes the tires right at the hit and then bangs the blower which deploys the chutes and coast on through the 1000 feet.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.774/324.59, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.788/322.73, Was #7
Right Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.154/225.41, Now #14; No Prior Run

alBalooshi with a good looking pass, his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder two spots. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.138, 660ft-3.030/285.17 mph. Faria clicked it off early, but still makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in the show for now.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.821/320.28, Now #9; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.838/323.66, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.863/322.58, Was #11

Crampton launched hard and keep it hooked up to get in the show and move all the way up to the number nine spot. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.069/282.01 mph. McMillen with another good looking pass, straight down the groove. He quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number 11 spot. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.185, 660ft-3.089/281.13 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.773/329.02, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.781/324.05, Was #7
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 5.699/110.69, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.830/321.96, Was #10

Torrence launched hard and keep it hooked up to run his career fastest pass, and top speed of the event, and oh yeah track speed record. Torrence moves up the ladder a couple spots. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.033/285.05 mph. Grubnic started to smoke th tires around 400 feet and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.778/326.24, Now #8; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 3.902/309.20, Now #15; No Prior Run

Force with a great pass, her career best E.T. and mph and she moves into the top half of the show. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.144, 660ft-3.036/285.65 mph. Frigo with a good clean pass to get in the show...Sidnei Frigo's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.194, 660ft-3.122/271.90 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.753/325.69, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.746/328.70, Was #2
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.793/320.89, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.808/322.73, Was #9

Langdon with another good looking pass, but will not improve. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.115, 660ft-3.010/284.27 mph. Schumacher was right there with Langdon, but then started mixing up cylinders and pushed out a head gasket on the top end. He still makes his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number nine spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.135, 660ft-3.039/280.25 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 7.323/74.41, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.768/324.51, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.775/321.50, Was #7

Millican started to shake the tires and then was up in smoke before he clicked it off. Massey launched hard and keep it hook up to make his quickest pass of the weekend. He moves up the ladder a couple spots...Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.136, 660ft-3.025/285.95 mph.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.817/320.05, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.843/319.98, Was #13
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.787/324.59, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.761/322.58, Was #4

Pritchett with a great looking pass, her career fastest pass. This is her quickest pass of the weekend and she move up the ladder to number 10 spot. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.062/281.36 mph. Vandergriff will not improve, but another great looking pass, straight down the groove. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.148, 660ft-3.040/283.37 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.760/328.86, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.753/327.19, Was #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 5.089/139.76, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.731/326.00, Was #1

Kalitta will not improve, but another great pass by Kalitta. He stays in the number three spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.025/288.58 mph. Brown was up in smoke around 400 feet and clicked it off.
