Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: William Litton Runs 6.256/175.80, Now #14; Best prior run: 12.300/68.39, Was #15

Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 1,570 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

Litton started to drop cylinders around 400 feet and then really started mixing them up before he clicked it off.


Left Lane: Ashley Sanford Runs 17.836/44.60, Now #15; Best prior run: 9.063/101.53, Was #15
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.661/260.91, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.636/260.61, Was #12

Sanford is up in smoke as soon as she i=hits the throttle and clicks it off. Grisel makes a clean pass, but will not improve. Casey Grisel's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.571, 660ft-3.779/206.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.799.

Left Lane: Derik Milanesio No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.677/244.78, Was #13

Milanesio couldn't get the car to fire and was pushed off the starting line.

Left Lane: Ross Stickler Runs 5.547/256.41, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.586/255.10, Was #11
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.364/266.90, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.447/265.85, Was #8

Stickler made a move toward the centerline, but reeled it in to make his best run of the weekend. He will stay in the number 11 spot. Ross Stickler's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.436, 660ft-3.635/205.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.670. Shields was on real good looking pass, but was dropping cylinders right in the lights. He still moves up the ladder four spots. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.436, 660ft-3.564/222.58 mph, 1,000ft-4.528.

Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.399/266.06, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.469/263.82, Was #10
Right Lane: Megan McKernan Runs 11.155/69.24, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.408/264.34, Was #7

Cowie launched hard and was on a good pass, but had puff of smoke right in the lights. He moves into the top half of the show. Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.387, 660ft-3.554/211.30 mph, 1,000ft-4.554. McKernan with tire shake right at the hit and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.346/270.59, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.412/267.75, Was #9
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 17.223/50.48, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.404/212.59, Was #7

Taliaferro with a great looking pass to go to the number four spot. Mark Taliaferro's incremental times: 60ft-0.940 sec., 330ft-2.398, 660ft-3.533/217.32 mph, 1,000ft-4.514. Bateman was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.284/277.83, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.385/270.37, Was #6
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.218/276.46, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.340/275.22, Was #3

St. Arnaud make quick move toward the wall and he reeled it in and was then over by the centerline and he then gets it back into the groove. he still goes to the number three spot...Don St. Arnaud's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-3.533/223.10 mph, 1,000ft-4.479. Demke launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight and hooked up to go to the number one spot. That ties the fourth quickest blown pass and is the second fastest blown pass. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.331, 660ft-3.448/221.13 mph, 1,000ft-4.405.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 21.276/37.28, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.277/270.64, Was #2
Right Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.336/261.57, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.291/248.52, Was #4

Severance with a lot of tire shake and clicks it off. Ahten was straight down the groove with another good pass, but will not improve. He will stay in the number three spot. Johnny Ahten's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.427, 660ft-3.539/224.32 mph, 1,000ft-4.493.
