POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.628/210.05, Now #18; Best prior run: 8.054/179.16, Was #19

2:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 3,059 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.

Matt Hartford is on the bump spot at 6.589.

Johnson car makes a quick little move to the left at the green and he gets a full pass. He will a lot more power to break into the field.

Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.793, 660ft-4.277/165.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.553.

Left Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 6.663/206.32, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.649/204.45, Was #19
Right Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.634/208.75, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.616/209.04, Was #16

Massel's Camaro drives steadily out of the groove, but he stays with it and picks up some speed to stay number nineteen. Not bad for his second pass.

Kramer slows a little.

Bruno Massel's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.280/164.77 mph, 1,000ft-5.572.
Deric Kramer's incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.275/165.64 mph, 1,000ft-5.555.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.602/210.11, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.626/210.08, Was #17
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.589/209.72, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.603/209.07, Was #14

Both cars leave well and run hard to the finish line.

The good news: Morgan matches Hartford's ET for the bump spot. The bad news: Hartford is faster and stays in the field for now.

Johnson has a better tune up and move two spots up the ladder to the number fifteen.

Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.253/166.42 mph, 1,000ft-5.528.
Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.762, 660ft-4.241/166.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.515.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.601/209.72, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.614/209.10, Was #16
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.589/210.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.600/209.72, Was #14

Brogdon joins the "Good News - Bad News Club" sliding in in from of Morgan.

Stanfield moves up a spot too.

Right Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.606/210.05, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.589/210.64, Was #12

Hartford will stay on the bump for today, as the other challengers have already run. His Avenger makes a hard move at the green and can't improve.

Nobile finds a little speed, but loses just a little ET to stay #10.

Vincent Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.252/166.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.519.
Matt Hartford's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.258/166.25 mph, 1,000ft-5.533.

Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.556/210.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.566/210.57, Was #6
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.597/209.92, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.585/210.41, Was #11

Jones makes the best run of the session and moves two spots up the ladder to the top four on a straight and true pass.

Gray makes a good pass, but doesn't improve.

Rickie Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.753, 660ft-4.221/167.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.486.
Shane Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.253/166.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.525.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.562/211.36, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.564/211.26, Was #6
Right Lane: Erica Enders-Stevens Runs 6.565/210.83, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.581/210.83, Was #9

Stevens powers off the line and moves two spots up the ladder to the top eight.

Gains ran just 0.001 different to sixty feet and picks up a little speed and ET. He stays #6.

V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.232/167.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.496.
Erica Enders-Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.760, 660ft-4.228/167.66 mph, 1,000ft-5.495.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.556/211.53, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.558/210.70, Was #5
Right Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.567/211.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.578/210.64, Was #9

JOhnson makes a great looking pass and takes the new #4 spot6 on speed.

Perkinson has the power too and moves up a spot into the top eight.

Buddy Perkinson's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.760, 660ft-4.231/167.43 mph, 1,000ft-5.499.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.552/210.77, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.554/210.73, Was #3
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.602/198.17, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.576/210.37, Was #9

Anderson left well and then slowed on the top end.

Nice looking pass for Jeggie and it's good enough to move him to the top of the ladder and adding to his "Little Points" for now.

Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.750, 660ft-4.219/167.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.484.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.238/167.14 mph, 1,000ft-5.507.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.545/211.66, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.553/212.23, Was #2
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.567/211.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.554/210.93, Was #3

The Little Points change again, as Edwards runs the best run of the session on a clean pass.

Line will move back to even with Jeggie, as he can only muster the third best time of the session. Still a terrific pass.

Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.751, 660ft-4.218/168.07 mph, 1,000ft-5.480.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.760, 660ft-4.233/167.24 mph, 1,000ft-5.499.

3:00 p.m. Matt Hartford is on the bump spot at 6.589.
