POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 6.649/204.45, Now #1

1:55 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.97 inches, adjusted altitude 2,987 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Massel is making his maiden pass in Pro Stock here at Pomona in Steve Kent's Camaro.

He makes a very reasonable debut and set a mark for the rest of the field. Nice pass!


Left Lane: Buddy Perkinson Runs 6.578/210.64, Now #1
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.626/210.08, Now #2

Johnson has a ton of shake off the line and moves out of the groove to the left. He drives on through it to finish the run. Great pass for Perkinson.

Left Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.616/209.04, Now #2
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 8.054/179.16, Now #5

Johnson has traction issues too and slows.

Nice pass for Kramer.

Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.589/210.64, Now #2
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.614/209.10, Now #3

Two straight and true passes and Hartford matches Perkinson's top speed.

Good pass for Stanfield.

Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.257/165.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.536.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.603/209.07, Now #4
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.566/210.57, Now #1

Jones flies on down the track and into the new top spot.

Morgan into the top four for now.

Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.762, 660ft-4.246/165.72 mph, 1,000ft-5.525.
Rickie Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.233/167.76 mph, 1,000ft-5.498.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.600/209.72, Now #5
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.583/210.37, Now #3

A strong pass for Nobile, but he leaves a little on t6he table.

Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.249/166.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.524.
Vincent Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-1.000 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.246/167.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.514.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.576/210.37, Now #3
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.564/211.26, Now #1

Anderson has won at leat one race every year for the last twelve, but hasn't made won yet this year. He makes a strong pass, but can only card a number three run.

Gaines doesn't have the best low times, but runs strong on the top end to take over the top spot of ET and speed.

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.762, 660ft-4.235/167.12 mph, 1,000ft-5.504.
V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.233/167.66 mph, 1,000ft-5.498.

Left Lane: Erica Enders-Stevens Runs 6.581/210.83, Now #6
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.558/210.70, Now #1

Bruno Massel is on the bump spot at 6.649.

Johnson takes his Hemi into the new top spot on a strong pass.

Ender's car was lazy off the line and she still gets into the top eight for now.

Erica Enders-Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-1.000 sec., 330ft-2.770, 660ft-4.242/167.45 mph, 1,000ft-5.511.
Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.756, 660ft-4.227/167.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.492.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.585/210.41, Now #9
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.553/212.23, Now #1

Deric Kramer is on the bump spot at 6.616.

Two strong leaves and Edwards runs strong on the top end to capture the latest top spot.

Clean pass for Gray and he'll stay in the top twelve.

Shane Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.241/166.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.513.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.761, 660ft-4.229/167.99 mph, 1,000ft-5.490.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.554/210.93, Now #2
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.554/210.73, Now #3

One on these two will be the 2013 Champion on Sunday, with Coughlin having a big advantage. Little points could make the difference.

They are just 0.003 different at sixty feet; 0.001 at the three thirty; 0.002 at half track; 0.002 at 1000 feet; and dead even in the lights. Line takes the top spot on his 0.20 better speed.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.752, 660ft-4.220/167.82 mph, 1,000ft-5.484.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.753, 660ft-4.222/167.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.486.
