Cremo hurt his Bel Air on the final qualifying run and he staged a wounded race car here, trying to draw a red light. Bethenson went green, but almost gave it back to Cremo by running just six thousandths over his dial-in. A breakout would have given the win to Cremo, who did not get past half track.

Something, probably the right-hand door, came off Bethenson's car in the lights.
