LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jim Laurita Runs 12.387/67.83, Now #21; Best prior run: 11.021/78.60, Was #21

Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 27.91 inches, adjusted altitude 4,478 feet.

Laurita made a quick move toward the centerline right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Kevin Rivenbark Runs 6.971/144.55, Now #20; Best prior run: 8.316/111.87, Was #20
Right Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 9.310/138.47, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.483/188.15, Was #19

Matusek made a quick move toward the wall and clicked it off. Rivenbark shook hard and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.026/241.20, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.160/238.93, Was #15
Right Lane: Jim Bell No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.393/223.80, Was #18

Castellana with a real nice pass and gets into the top half of the show. Mike Castellana's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.690, 660ft-3.994/190.54 mph, 1,000ft-5.095. Bell left before the tree was activated and then was trailing smoke all the way down the track. The word from the Safety Safari is there is oil on the track.

Left Lane: Chip King Runs 6.024/245.27, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.115/244.87, Was #15

King with a nice straight pass down the groove to go to the number six spot.

Left Lane: Bob Rahaim Runs 6.119/231.00, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.113/234.61, Was #15
Right Lane: Dan Stevenson Runs 6.064/238.17, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.183/236.55, Was #16

Rahaim just a few ticks off his earlier pass and gets bumped down to the bubble. Bob Rahaim's incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.715, 660ft-4.032/189.18 mph, 1,000ft-5.153. Stevenson with nice pass to get off the bump spot and move up to the number 11 spot. Dan Stevenson's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.680, 660ft-4.000/187.18 mph, 1,000ft-5.120.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 5.991/238.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.104/199.94, Was #15
Right Lane: Von Smith Runs 6.061/235.23, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.061/234.90, Was #10

Knowles launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number three spot with a great looking pass. Mike Knowles' incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.634, 660ft-3.935/189.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.049. Smith matches his E.T. from earlier today, but gets bumped back one spot by Knowles. Von Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.650, 660ft-3.975/186.77 mph, 1,000ft-5.106.

Left Lane: Craig Cawte No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.097/234.00, Was #15
Right Lane: Eric Latino No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.045/243.02, Was #10

Cawte with problems around half track and clicked it off. Latino was real loose early and reeled it in and then got real loose again and took out the timing blocks at 1000-foot and crossed the finish line in Cawte's lane. so neither driver will get an E.T. for this run.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.019/238.51, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.091/236.96, Was #14
Right Lane: Pete Farber No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.028/242.45, Was #9

smith improves on his run from earlier today and moves into the top half of the show. Rickie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.662, 660ft-3.969/189.84 mph, 1,000ft-5.078.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.001/245.94, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.069/242.19, Was #14
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 10.778/91.66, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.017/241.45, Was #6

Coughlin with a good looking pass, straight down the groove to the number four spot. Troy Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.019/197.22 mph, 1,000ft-5.090. Lang with severe shake and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.003/241.76, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.010/240.98, Was #6
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 5.989/241.54, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.010/241.63, Was #5

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Radford improves, but will stay in the number six spot and Janis with a great pass and goes to the number three spot. Dennis Radford's incremental times: 60ft-1.025 sec., 330ft-2.701, 660ft-3.979/192.30 mph, 1,000ft-5.074.
Mike Janis' incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.644, 660ft-3.945/190.11 mph, 1,000ft-5.055.

Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 5.973/242.63, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.989/242.23, Was #2
Right Lane: Todd Tutterow Runs 14.022/83.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.876/250.69, Was #1

Rowe was straight down the groove with a real nice pass to improve, but stays in the number two spot. Danny Rowe's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.633, 660ft-3.940/190.62 mph, 1,000ft-5.044. Tutterow with a lot of tire shake and clicks it off.
