Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 11.646/68.74, Now #2
Right Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 10.209/86.90, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 27.91 inches, adjusted altitude 4,478 feet.

Noakes is making his Top Fuel debut and he is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Chrisman is up in smoke right off the starting line and he clicks it off.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 10.145/71.19, Now #2
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 4.094/305.77, Now #1

Buff is up in smoke right off the starting line . Torrence makes a clean pass to start the weekend. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.279, 660ft-3.294/258.32 mph.

Left Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 3.927/304.32, Now #1
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 8.708/81.83, Now #3

Frigo launched hard and was straight down the groove with a nice looking pass. Sidnei Frigo's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.146/273.16 mph. Zizzo is up in smoke by 150 feet.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.441/185.64, Now #3
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 4.509/172.83, Now #4

McMillen makes a move toward the centerline and is out of the groove and up in smoke when he starts to lose traction and clicks it off. Force starts to lose traction and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.005/252.05, Now #3
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.990/255.29, Now #2

Bernstein was on a good pass and then started to lose traction on the top end and clicked it off early. Grubnic launched hard and was on a good pass until he started to lose traction on the top end and clicked it off early. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.194, 660ft-3.141/267.43 mph.
David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.203, 660ft-3.135/271.35 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 9.308/76.15, Now #9
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.889/307.93, Now #1

Torrence is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. Vandergriff with a real nice pass, straight down the groove and into the number one spot. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.101/270.75 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 6.461/91.94, Now #8
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 8.049/79.56, Now #9

alBalooshi starts to smoke the tires early and he clicked it off. Millican starts to haze the tires the right off the starting line and he clicks it off.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.845/321.50, Now #1
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 6.666/75.06, Now #10

Schumacher launched hard and keep it hooked up and to go to the number one spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.093/280.66 mph. Brown started to lose traction and bangs the blower and the chutes automatically deploy.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.144/215.20, Now #8
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.887/312.71, Now #2

Lucas started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off. Massey with a great looking pass to go to the number two spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.207, 660ft-3.117/277.49 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.857/321.12, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.799/317.87, Now #1

This was a great side-by-side drag race to wrap up session one. Kalitta was straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.197, 660ft-3.105/279.56 mph. Langdon launched hard and keep it hooked up with a great looking pass to go to the number one spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.142, 660ft-3.046/283.01 mph.
