Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 7.348/182.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.162/187.44, Now #1

1:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 27.95 inches, adjusted altitude 4,089 feet.

This is Lougheed's first race this year. He makes a clean pass but may not stay in the field with this run. Whitaker's bike sounded like it bogged a little at the hit.


Left Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 7.025/189.44, Now #1
Right Lane: James Surber Runs 7.252/182.28, Now #3

Kennedy is making his second appearance in this class. He makes a decent run to take the early pole. Surber makes a clean run to get in the field for now.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.311/184.52, Now #5
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.197/188.33, Now #3



Left Lane: Katie Sullivan No Time, Now #7

Sullivan leaves before the tree is activated and receives no time.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 7.003/190.59, Now #1
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 8.087/120.00, Now #8

Smith has problems around half track and backs off the throttle. Savoie makes a clean pass to take the pole for now.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.501/178.35, Now #9
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.058/187.89, Now #3



Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.180/191.08, Now #6
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.022/187.68, Now #2

Hines makes a decent pass and gets in the second spot for now. Johnson makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the sixth spot for now.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.030/190.94, Now #4
Right Lane: Adam Arana Runs 7.271/188.04, Now #10

Arana was a little sluggish off the line. He gets close to the wall but never backs off the throttle. Gann makes a decent pass to get in the fourth spot.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 6.987/191.19, Now #1
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 7.013/190.43, Now #3

Hall makes a good run, the first in the sixes, and he takes the top spot for now. Pollacheck makes a decent run to get in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.021/191.57, Now #5
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.016/188.83, Now #4



Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.322/150.35, Now #17
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.971/192.30, Now #1

Ray makes the quickest pass of the round so far and takes the pole for now. Arana had problems late in the run and backed off the throttle.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 7.015/190.94, Now #6
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.010/192.38, Now #4

Smith drifts to the left early, gets close to the centerline, but never backs off the throttle. Arana goes right down the groove and gets in the sixth spot to end this session.
