Pro Extreme Round 1 Eliminations
By Larry Sullivan

BAYTOWN, Texas - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Extreme at the 2013 ADRL Tour presented by Speedtech, World Finals IX:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
167 Mike Recchia 2377 Von Smith
E1 0.061 4.918 88.05 ****WINNER**** 0.016 4.046 181.01
 Qualified: #4 3.619 211.83 #13 3.724 210.41
3:46 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.97 inches, adjusted altitude 1,610 feet.

Smith had the early lead, then Recchia's car started heading for the wall and he had to lift. Smith also had problems with tire shake, but stayed in the groove when he backpedaled.

2007 Joey Martin 10 Frankie Taylor
E1 0.021 3.673 197.62 ****WINNER**** 0.039 3.612 211.73
 Qualified: #12 3.700 203.34 #5 3.623 208.94
Martin has announced his retirement and Taylor is purportedly going to turn his attention to Top Fuel next year.

Great race, but tire shake did Martin in and Taylor moved on with a nice run.

Joey Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.459.
Frankie Taylor's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.439.

Frankie Taylor's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.015), 330 ft(0.002). MOV: 0.0435 seconds (approximately 13 feet).

Taylor will have lane choice against Smith in round two.

48 Brandon Snider 2695 Bubba Stanton
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.037 3.647 210.05 0.017 3.691 207.62
 Qualified: #14 3.744 195.70 #3 3.615 213.30
Stanton was consistently quick on his two qualifying runs and had to be favored here. But somebody forget to tell Snider and even a nice holeshot by Stanton was not enough to hold off Snider's best run of the event. Stanton led past 330 feet, but his car fell off the pace a bit on the top end.

Brandon Snider's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.047), 330 ft(0.006). MOV: 0.0247 seconds (approximately 8 feet).

1130 John Stanley 277 Terry Leggett
E1 -0.136 3.689 204.57 ****WINNER**** 0.027 3.644 209.72
 Qualified: #11 3.699 204.14 #6 3.644 211.03
Stanley lit the red bulb by over a tenth, but Leggett didn't take it easy and that may have cost him because there was a big puff of smoke from Leggett's car in the lights. If he can return, Leggett will have lane choice against Snider in round two.

2 Jason Scruggs 214 Wesley Jones
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.028 3.689 211.53 -0.004 3.940 190.11
 Qualified: #1 3.527 218.34 #17 3.948 189.39
This is puzzling - Scruggs did not get down the left lane earlier today after running awesome numbers in the right lane. Scruggs once again shook in the left lane, but this is eliminations and he may not have seen Jones' red light because he pedaled and steered and drove it "like he stole it." No backup, but an impressive job of driving.

4607 Todd Martin 412 Randell Reid
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.073 5.587 82.66 No Time
 Qualified: #8 3.667 207.91 #9 3.687 205.94
Reid made the burnout, backed up, and the engine went silent. Martin launched into hard tire shake and he coasted through, giving Stanton lane choice in round two.

7 Alex Hossler 51 Don Wootton
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.005 3.628 211.83 -0.032 3.679 210.44
 Qualified: #2 3.585 214.86 #15 3.819 196.36
Wootton went red and Hossler got a round closer to clinching the championship. One more round and it's his.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
    1 Mick Snyder 1382 Tommy D'Aprile
E1 -0.019 3.647 210.18 ****WINNER**** 0.033 3.654 209.56
 Qualified: #7 3.647 210.31 #10 3.692 208.23
D'Aprile is the only driver with a shot at catching Hossler and he's 269 points behind right now. He must win here to keep his slim chance alive.

Snyder took a shot at the tree and missed. D'Aprile faces Hossler next round and Hossler has lane choice. If Hossler wins, it's his. If D'Aprile wins, he must win the event to get the championship.
