CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.090/305.91, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.090/305.91, Was #4
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.357/123.00, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.357/123.00, Was #15

9:09 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.18 inches, adjusted altitude 2,627 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Pedregon was on a decent pass but lost fire about 500 feet out. Head equals his first attempt and stays in the fourth spot.


Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.042/309.84, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.871/201.67, Was #13
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.020/318.99, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.048/150.05, Was #14

Wilkerson kept the candles lit all the way through the run and makes a career best pass to move into the top spot. Hight goes right down the groove and gets into the field in the second spot.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 7.582/86.38, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.113/302.41, Was #9
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.980/319.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.720/172.36, Was #14

Pedregon makes an impressive pass, his quickest ever, a track record, the second quickest run in history, and quicker than the national record. He will have a chance to back it up tomorrow.

Tasca gets about 200 feet out, loses traction and has to give up on the run.


Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.925/88.95, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.099/309.91, Was #9
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 12.892/86.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.191/257.92, Was #14

Capps goes up in smoke at the hit and backed off the throttle. Beckman gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and has to give up on the run.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 7.813/74.51, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.093/308.14, Was #8
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.027/310.70, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.154/302.41, Was #13

Gray gets about 100 feet out, loses traction and backs off the throttle. DeJoria goes right down the groove with a career best pass to move into the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.021/319.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.086/314.39, Was #7
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.038/317.94, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.119/296.76, Was #12

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove, flames high and steady all the way through the run. Courtney runs a career best to get in the third spot, John moves into the fifth.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.992/320.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.085/309.84, Was #8
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.034/317.72, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.075/312.50, Was #7

Hagan goes right down the groove with the second three of the night and gets back in the second spot where he started the round. Worsham makes a decent pass and moves up a spot to sixth.
