EARLVILLE, Iowa - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, West Central Division, event at Tri-State Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Billy Davis Runs 6.615/166.15, Now #1
5:19 p.m. Davis has a good leave and then does a quick pedal slap about 330 out and finishes the run. That at least puts a number on the list for qualifying. He'll get two more tries.
Billy Davis' incremental times: 60ft-0.975 sec., 330ft-2.629, 660ft-4.049/180.81 mph, 1,000ft-5.329.
Left Lane: Dave Allison Runs 6.276/182.06, Now #2
Right Lane: Kirk Williams Runs 5.793/249.86, Now #1
Allison's funny car has a strong leave and then heads for the wall. He gets REALLY close right before the 660 lights and then again right after that! He stays off the wall, but not by much...
Williams quietly flies on down the track and give the field something to shoot for.
Dave Allison's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.580, 660ft-3.918/177.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.113.
Kirk Williams' incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.576, 660ft-3.823/197.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.890.
Left Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 6.128/187.63, Now #2
Right Lane: Lance Van Hauen Runs 6.398/170.13, Now #4
Last pair of the session.
Van Hausen has a little shake off the line and then the Camaro starts a steady move towards the center line. He wisely lifts and shuts off before crossing over near the 660 lights.
Butler run is off his normal pace, but still gets him #2 for now.
Wayne Butler's incremental times: 60ft-0.964 sec., 330ft-2.539, 660ft-3.812/190.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.999.
