Gingles is in his first-ever final round, in his fifth career national event, third event this year. He ran two events in 2011, skipped 2012. His best prior finish was the semifinals at Topeka this year and his three round wins so far this weekend doubled his career total. His car runs on injected nitromethane.

Whiteley has a long list of achievements. This is his 26th career final round, his third this year, with one win and one loss in 2013. He has 20 prior national event wins. His car is supercharged, running alcohol.

This is the first time these two have faced each other.

Nice drag race and we not only have a first-time winner, we have not had a repeat winner in TAD yet this season.

Gingles had a nice holeshot, but Whiteley made that up in the first 330 feet and then the race was on. Gingles slowly opened a half-car-length lead and held that to the stripe.

Gord Gingles' incremental margins: 60ft(0.029), 330 ft(0.001), 660ft(0.024), 1,000ft(0.043). MOV: 0.0312 seconds (approximately 12 feet).
