Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 6.918/92.98, Now #2
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.528/172.96, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 28.81 inches, adjusted altitude 3,279 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Cullinan started to shake and then drop cylinders early and clicked it off. Johnson started to lose traction by 300 feet and clicked it off.


Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 4.916/142.64, Now #2

Zizzo started to lose traction and then pitched the blower belt...

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.313/196.90, Now #1
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 5.838/110.38, Now #4

Force is up in smoke early and clicks it off. McMillen starts to smoke the tires a little farther down track.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.864/317.64, Now #1
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.001/102.80, Now #6

Grubnic is up in smoke before half track. Bernstein launches hard and keeps it hooked up to make the first full pass of the day. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.104/279.90 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 5.924/106.91, Now #7
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.520/170.30, Now #3

Torrence is up in smoke and clicks it off. Vandergriff makes it a little farther down track before he started to lose traction.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.835/321.12, Now #1
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.849/321.50, Now #2

This was a great side-by-side drag race as they both make full passes. Millican goes to the number one spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.171, 660ft-3.081/280.84 mph. Lucas is right there with him to go to the number two spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.096/279.85 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.828/320.89, Now #1
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.847/149.85, Now #8

Kalitta is up in smoke around 400 feet. alBalooshi launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.160, 660ft-3.073/279.90 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.902/313.37, Now #6
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.857/316.23, Now #4

A couple good looking passes here for both of them to get into the top half of the show. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.131/275.22 mph.
Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.176, 660ft-3.093/277.15 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.630/162.76, Now #10
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 6.150/108.32, Now #16

Langdon is up in smoke around the 330-foot mark and Schumacher is up in smoke a little farther down the track.
