Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

SONOMA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.242/264.18, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.863/316.67, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.966/87.33, Was #17

Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.88 inches, adjusted altitude 1,858 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Chrisman was on a good pass and then the car start to smoke the tires and he will not get in the show. Force with a good pass until on the top end when the car started moving around a lot, but she stayed with it to get in the show. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.184, 660ft-3.107/279.44 mph.


Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 5.285/127.11, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.841/319.14, Was #13
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.906/303.91, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.089/136.22, Was #18

Bernstein is up in smoke early and clicked it off. Buff with a good pass, but just misses getting in the show. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.114/268.97 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.844/318.54, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.830/312.86, Was #10
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.927/146.67, Now #16; Best prior run: 3.903/317.27, Was #16

Millican launched hard and was straight down the groove with a good looking pass...Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.176, 660ft-3.084/278.63 mph. McMillen loses traction early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.811/323.66, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.827/319.37, Was #9
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 5.022/140.36, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.875/303.71, Was #15

Johnson Jr starts to lose traction early and clicks it off. Lucas with his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the show. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.063/281.83 mph.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.900/309.20, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.821/319.37, Was #9
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.836/319.14, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.839/316.75, Was #12

Vandergriff with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.077/278.12 mph. Zizzo with a good clean pass, but will not improve.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.853/319.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.803/320.66, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.631/163.93, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.838/323.89, Was #12

Schumacher is up in smoke and clicks it off. brown with another good looking pass, he will not improve, but will start from the top half of the show. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.191, 660ft-3.096/280.60 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 6.750/100.25, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.797/321.96, Was #6
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 6.448/91.96, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.789/320.97, Was #4

Today is alBalooshi's birthday today...both cars are up in smoke almost at the same time.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 4.999/139.53, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.793/314.17, Was #5
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.725/157.63, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.780/324.83, Was #3

Massey is up in smoke first and Kalitta is up in smoke right after him. Massey has just clinched a spot in the Countdown to the Championship.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.886/146.99, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.765/324.28, Was #1
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 6.424/95.03, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.766/323.27, Was #2

torrence is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. Grubnic is up in smoke around 330 feet and he clicks it off. He will hold on to the number one spot...this is the first time this year he has qualified number one and the 10th time in his career.
