Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

SONOMA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.942/190.65, Now #13; Best prior run: 15.011/47.65, Was #20
Right Lane: Daryl Meadows Runs 18.423/33.49, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.184/182.65, Was #18

3:03 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.88 inches, adjusted altitude 1,858 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

It's definitely hotter on the track right now. Freddie Camarena is on the bump spot at 7.106.

Pollacheck gets a full pass this time and rides his Buell into the new #13 position for now.

Meadows has issues early and is up in the saddle and coasting early.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.916/193.32, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.477/132.70, Was #20
Right Lane: James Surber Runs 7.102/187.96, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.108/184.77, Was #18

Stoffer finally gets the full pass she was looking for and gets into the field in the current #11 position.

Stuber picks up a little ET and MPH to stay #18.

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.058 sec., 330ft-2.869, 660ft-4.410/158.67 mph, 1,000ft-5.759.
James Surber's incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.939, 660ft-4.526/153.86 mph, 1,000ft-5.912.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.067/189.07, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.106/187.26, Was #19
Right Lane: John Hall Runs 6.925/191.87, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.942/188.73, Was #15

Shawn Gann is on the bump spot at 6.952.

Both bikes make their best passes of the weekend, but only Hall improves enough to matter. Two spots on the ladder to the new #13 position.

Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.094 sec., 330ft-2.927, 660ft-4.498/155.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.880.
John Hall's incremental times: 60ft-1.044 sec., 330ft-2.863, 660ft-4.410/157.69 mph, 1,000ft-5.761.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.975/193.18, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.031/189.50, Was #17
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.898/194.13, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.922/192.47, Was #12

This session is turning out to be faster than I was expecting.

Underdahl gets a six second pass, but it's only good enough for the current #17 position.

Savoie finds a bunch of power and moves up the ladder six spots and into the top half of the field on a nice pass.

Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.052 sec., 330ft-2.855, 660ft-4.396/158.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.744.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.968/192.77, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.952/193.43, Was #16
Right Lane: Steve Johnson No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.908/192.93, Was #11

Gann gets a full pass, but will stay on the bump spot.

Johnson takes the green and then the bike stops on the track before the sixty foot lights.

Shawn Gann's incremental times: 60ft-1.087 sec., 330ft-2.903, 660ft-4.451/157.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.806.

Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 6.948/191.21, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.942/190.89, Was #14
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.893/191.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.901/192.17, Was #8

Two strong passes and Sullivan will stay number 14.

Smith has another great pass and move two more spots up the ladder into the current #6 spot.

Katie Sullivan's incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.913, 660ft-4.449/159.14 mph, 1,000ft-5.791.
Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.856, 660ft-4.381/159.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.727.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.899/193.99, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.907/190.06, Was #10
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.957/192.47, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.898/191.62, Was #8

Hines picks up some and Krawiec loses some, The bad news is that they will not race each other in round one, if nothing changes.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.055 sec., 330ft-2.856, 660ft-4.396/159.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.743.
Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.093 sec., 330ft-2.907, 660ft-4.447/158.48 mph, 1,000ft-5.795.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 7.155/187.96, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.902/192.19, Was #10
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.892/194.10, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.879/192.58, Was #5

Arana has the possibility to split up the H-D team, but slows on the top end.

Tonglet continues to put good numbers on the board and will stay #5.

Adam Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.133 sec., 330ft-3.006, 660ft-4.578/154.97 mph, 1,000ft-5.964.
LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.868, 660ft-4.402/159.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.741.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.840/195.73, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.875/192.08, Was #3
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.865/195.05, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.879/195.87, Was #4

Two great passes for the Arana's and they both improve. Junior to the new top spot and Senior to the #3 spot.

Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.852, 660ft-4.379/159.80 mph, 1,000ft-5.716.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.838/195.73, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.875/193.18, Was #4
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.841/195.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.843/194.07, Was #2

Last two bikes to qualify.

Identical 1.049 sixty foot and three thirty numbers and Smith pulls steady ahead to the finish line to take back the number one qualifying position for the weekend.

Ray is strong too and is just 0.001 away from the number two spot.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.049 sec., 330ft-2.837, 660ft-4.357/160.33 mph, 1,000ft-5.692.
Michael Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.049 sec., 330ft-2.837, 660ft-4.362/160.10 mph, 1,000ft-5.697.
