Top Alcohol Dragster Round 1 Eliminations
By Jason Murray

WOODBURN, Ore. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northwest Division, Les Schwab Challenge at Woodburn Dragstrip:

6 Duane Shields 613 Joey Severance
E1 0.079 6.018 256.92 ****WINNER**** 0.044 5.770 167.19
 Qualified: #6 5.449 264.08 #3 5.406 223.93
12:28 pm. Severance made his best run yesterday in the final session yesterday and he popped the burst panel on that run, so he know he has more in the ET. Severance gets out of the gate first, Shields shakes the tires he pedals it and tries to catch Severance by the finish-line. Severance was on a great run until the engine goes up in smoke at 1000ft and that will cost him another blower. Shields just didn't have enough race track to catch him.

Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.705, 660ft-4.107/192.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.153.
Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.388, 660ft-3.537/214.69 mph, 1,000ft-4.616.

617 Gregg Lawrence 681 Shawn Cowie
E1 0.118 6.082 189.75 ****WINNER**** 0.064 5.377 268.73
 Qualified: #8 5.517 258.24 #1 5.334 269.78
Cowie is making his first appearance in 2 years. Lawrence is the home town favorite as he is multi-time event winner here at the Les Schwab Challenge. Cowie has the better light and he was way out front. Lawrence's car didn't sound right from the time they started it. Cowie had a lot of driving to do as he was close to the center line as he crossed the finish line.

Gregg Lawrence's incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.634, 660ft-3.880/199.51 mph, 1,000ft-4.977.
Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.945 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.555/214.89 mph, 1,000ft-4.541.

64 Ray Martin 611 Garrett Bateman
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.009 5.535 267.85 0.044 14.360 79.62
 Qualified: #5 5.448 267.85 #4 5.418 267.77
Martin was runner-up last weekend back in Norwalk at the national event. Bateman is up in smoke at the hit of the throttle. Martin makes a nice solid run but will give up lane choice in the next round to Cowie.

Ray Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.512, 660ft-3.699/211.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.696.

75 Megan McKernan 2 Chris Demke
E1 0.071 6.762 120.87 ****WINNER**** 0.063 5.380 270.59
 Qualified: #7 5.472 263.23 #2 5.397 270.18
Nitro vs Alcohol. With the weather being much warmer today the blown cars will have a small advantage. They leave together off the line, McKernan shakes the tires hard, she pedals it and then she starts to do a wheelstand as the car hooks back up, Demke in the other lane was so far out front by that time he missed seeing the show, but he will have lane choice in the next round of Severance.

Megan McKernan's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.617, 660ft-3.785/174.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.196.
Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.412, 660ft-3.571/215.87 mph, 1,000ft-4.551.
