Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

WOODBURN, Ore. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northwest Division, Les Schwab Challenge at Woodburn Dragstrip listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.640/259.29, Now #4; Best prior run: 11.555/97.87, Was #12
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.663/258.47, Now #6; Best prior run: 14.110/54.83, Was #14

3:03 pm. Terry Ruckman is on the bump spot at 5.970. Both cars make very good runs as they both drive through the tire shake to run their best runs of the weekend.

Steve Gasparrelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.538, 660ft-3.748/205.33 mph, 1,000ft-4.773.
Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.551, 660ft-3.762/205.10 mph, 1,000ft-4.793.

Right Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 5.604/261.09, Now #1; Best prior run: 12.932/63.39, Was #14

Shane Westerfield is on the bump spot at 5.704. Thompson makes the quickest pass of the weekend. The car goes into a little tire shake about 100ft out but Thompson drove through it and was able to go all the way to the number 1 spot.

Clint Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.518, 660ft-3.723/206.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.743.

Left Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 6.111/226.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.970/235.78, Was #11
Right Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.883/205.57, Now #10; Best prior run: 8.726/103.59, Was #14

Jirka Kaplan is on the bump spot at 5.687. Both of these cars are very capable of getting into the show as both are former divisional champs. Ruckman shakes at 300ft, he then goes towards the wall he lifts and then puts his foot back in it to and then the engine lets go right in the lights. Lombardo was on a great run until the car when silent at 1100ft and he slows to a 5.88.

Terry Ruckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.601, 660ft-4.032/182.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.153.
John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.555, 660ft-3.771/203.71 mph, 1,000ft-4.848.

Left Lane: Russ Parker Runs 5.898/245.90, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.941/243.83, Was #11
Right Lane: Randy Parker Runs 6.170/186.21, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.216/219.24, Was #14

Jirka Kaplan is on the bump spot at 5.687. Both of these drivers would have to go a career best to get into the show. They both make better runs, but neither will get in the show. Not much tire shake from either of them. Randy though pitches the blower belt at 1000ft and that didn't help.

Randy Parker's incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.616, 660ft-3.909/192.02 mph, 1,000ft-5.041.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 23.372/31.39, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.704/256.19, Was #9
Right Lane: Jirka Kaplan Runs 5.688/256.26, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.687/256.84, Was #8

Jirka Kaplan is on the bump spot at 5.687. Westerfield shakes and then lifts. Kaplan makes another solid run and he will go into the final session later today on the bump.

Shane Westerfield's incremental times: 60ft-1.241 sec., 330ft-5.387, 660ft-10.778/040.52 mph, 1,000ft-16.842.
Jirka Kaplan's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.554, 660ft-3.774/204.12 mph, 1,000ft-4.811.

Right Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.689/260.04, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.638/262.23, Was #4

Hough shakes the tires through low gear and he starts to bounce a little but still manages a 5.68.

Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.563, 660ft-3.793/204.08 mph, 1,000ft-4.823.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.722/255.02, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.630/257.87, Was #3
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 7.631/122.11, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.615/257.80, Was #2

Gordon goes about 150ft starts to shake and then starts bouncing and he lifts. Whiteley makes a nice run and she will go into the final session in the #3 spot.

Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.964 sec., 330ft-2.543, 660ft-3.790/200.89 mph, 1,000ft-4.840.
Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.957 sec., 330ft-2.553, 660ft-4.143/138.18 mph, 1,000ft-5.886.
