Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jerry Powell No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Kosky No Time, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 3,244 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

Powell making his first appearance of the season and has problems on the burnout and pulls over by the wall. Kosky does his burnout and is then shut off so they can pull Powell off the track. He is then pushed back so he can let it cool off and refuel...he will get a run later in the session.

Left Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.955/245.45, Now #1
Right Lane: Kyle Michalek Runs 6.351/192.00, Now #2

Burns with a clean pass to start the weekend. Mike Burns' incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.658, 660ft-3.964/193.02 mph, 1,000ft-5.047. Michalek clicks it off early.

Left Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.698/256.60, Now #2
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.570/242.63, Now #1

Veale started to shake and pedaled it one time. Fricke with a good pass.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.722/248.66, Now #3
Right Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 7.846/93.46, Now #6

Schuster banged the blower around 800 feet and the chute came out. Stalba with a clean pass.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 17.935/36.68, Now #8
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.505/259.61, Now #1

Olivarez is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Hirata with a nice pass, straight down the groove.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 27.205/24.67, Now #10
Right Lane: Rishi Kanick Runs 5.614/264.75, Now #3

Finke was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Kanick with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.551/258.76, Now #3
Right Lane: Brandon Booher Runs 5.392/268.49, Now #1

This was a pretty good drag race as Samsel goes to the number three spot and Booher to the top of the list. Robin Samsel's incremental times: 60ft-0.999 sec., 330ft-2.558, 660ft-3.709/217.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.694.
Brandon Booher's incremental times: 60ft-0.941 sec., 330ft-2.422, 660ft-3.576/214.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.558.

Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.641/262.59, Now #6
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 6.712/251.95, Now #11

Perry with a quick pedal job and goes to the number six spot. Shields starts to lose traction right at the hit and got off the throttle for a long time and then back on to it to get a time on the board.

Left Lane: Dan Page Runs 12.602/84.18, Now #14
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.441/263.31, Now #2

Page is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. Thacker launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Marty Thacker's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.417, 660ft-3.582/211.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.586.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.365/268.12, Now #2
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.349/269.08, Now #1

This was a great side-by-side drag race as these two launch hard and are straight down the groove to go to the number one and two spots. Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.446, 660ft-3.573/221.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.534.
Ray Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.391, 660ft-3.534/216.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.515.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.494/259.61, Now #6
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.472/257.83, Now #5

A couple good looking pass to start the weekend for these two...Randy Meyer's incremental times: 60ft-0.970 sec., 330ft-2.507, 660ft-3.662/217.53 mph, 1,000ft-4.641.
Rich McPhillips' incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.495, 660ft-3.646/218.02 mph, 1,000ft-4.617.

Right Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 5.494/259.06, Now #7

Kosky is back now to make his his pass...Kosky with a real nice pass to get into the top half of the field. Mike Kosky's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.583/199.11 mph, 1,000ft-4.624.
