Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 5.848/251.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.754/255.43, Now #1

3:26 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 3,244 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

A couple of pretty good runs to start the session, both right down the groove.


Left Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 5.807/246.89, Now #3
Right Lane: Brian Harvanek Runs 5.696/252.66, Now #1

Harvanek goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the year to take the top spot for now. Ferriolo makes a trouble free run to get in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Todd Robertson Runs 6.180/249.76, Now #6
Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 5.783/247.57, Now #3

Robertson shook the tires off the line and had to pedal once to settle down the car. Bojec went right down the groove and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Lance Van Hauen Runs 5.811/246.62, Now #5
Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 8.478/107.44, Now #8

Noakes gets about 300 feet out and the car noses over. Van Hauen makes a clean pass and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.919/249.86, Now #8
Right Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 5.715/254.04, Now #2

Anderika rattled the tires hard off the line, makes a move to the right and has to pedal. He gets the tires to settle down and gets in the eighth spot for now. Simonton goes right down the groove with a clean pass to get in the second pass for now.

Left Lane: Ray Drew Runs 5.709/254.76, Now #3
Right Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.621/258.17, Now #1

Hool makes a clean run and takes the pole for now. Drew makes a good run and gets in the third spot.

Left Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 5.676/256.55, Now #2
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.805/257.33, Now #8

Manzo gets about 100 feet out, has to pedal once, then goes on through with a decent pass. Bohl goes right down the groove and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 10.361/88.73, Now #16
Right Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.751/252.76, Now #6

Foster goes up in smoke at the hit, pedals a couple of times, then gives up on the run. Veney makes a clean pass and gets in the sixth spot.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.683/256.41, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.594/262.33, Now #1

Bartone goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round and takes the pole to end this session. Pomponio makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the fourth spot.
