Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Todd Simpson Runs 5.293/155.76, Now #17; No Prior Run

Simpson started dropping cylinders early and clicked it off. He will not get in the show.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 6.194/106.34, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.628/184.62, Was #16

Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 64 percent, barometer 28.63 inches, adjusted altitude 4,264 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Pedregon started mixing up cylinders early and clicked it off as he is in the show.

Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.141/308.07, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.105/310.13, Was #12
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.786/197.25, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.297/284.45, Was #15

Creasy started cropping cylinders and clicked it off around half track. Head with the quickest pass of the session, so far. He was straight down the groove. Chad Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.920 sec., 330ft-2.367, 660ft-3.348/263.00 mph.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.053/313.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.100/308.85, Was #11
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.119/303.30, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.139/298.80, Was #14

Gray launched hard and runs his quickest pass of the weekend to go all the way up to the number three spot. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.273/266.95 mph. DeJoria was straight down the groove with her quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.338, 660ft-3.313/261.42 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.104/309.06, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.094/314.02, Was #11
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.089/305.70, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.087/309.77, Was #10

Capps with another good pass almost matching his qualifying time. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.320, 660ft-3.294/264.23 mph. Tasca with another good pass, but will not improve. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.345, 660ft-3.317/265.22 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.079/297.42, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.086/302.55, Was #9
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.108/310.13, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.069/300.46, Was #6

This was a good side-by-side drag race. Hagan with another good pass, but didn't not improve. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.338, 660ft-3.318/264.29 mph. Pedregon with his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the show. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.296, 660ft-3.269/261.88 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.081/312.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.085/305.49, Was #9
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.050/315.56, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.068/312.86, Was #5

Force launched hard and keep it hitting all eight all the way down the track to the number two spot right behind her father. Courtney Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.281/273.72 mph. Force tied Hight's E.T. but got the position based on her faster speed. Beckman with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number nine spot and will race Cruz Pedregon tomorrow. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.298/266.69 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.150/303.03, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.071/310.55, Was #7
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.327/213.33, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.050/315.12, Was #3

Hight was on a good pass until around 600 feet when the engine went silent. Wilkerson with another good pass, but will not improve. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.340/255.48 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.762/171.34, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.065/313.15, Was #5
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.077/309.42, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.043/313.22, Was #1

Worsham started to drop cylinders early and clicked it off. Force with another great looking pass and then after the finish line he got real close to the wall. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.291/266.06 mph. Force with his first No. 1 qualifying spot this year and his 141st career No. 1 spot.
