Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.100/308.85, Now #7; No Prior Run

Gray after struggling yesterday, he launches hard and was straight down the groove into the top half of the show. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.307/263.87 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.087/309.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.147/304.32, Was #13
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.628/184.62, Now #14; No Prior Run

Pedregon started to lose traction and then had a lot of engine smoke as the engine went away. There word from the top end is there is oil on the track, so this will cost him five points. Capps with a great pass to move into the top half of the show...Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.307, 660ft-3.294/261.52 mph.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.297/284.45, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.094/314.02, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.136/310.70, Was #13

Tasca with the second quickest pass of the round to move into the top half of the show. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.338, 660ft-3.313/266.42 mph. Creasy with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the show. Dale Creasy Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.392, 660ft-3.441/244.78 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.139/298.80, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.086/302.55, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.126/300.06, Was #12

Pedregon launched hard and keep it hooked up and makes the quickest pass of the round to move into the top half of the show. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.316, 660ft-3.283/262.85 mph. DeJoria was dropping cylinders on the top end, but still makes her quickest pass of the weekend to get into the show. Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.931 sec., 330ft-2.363, 660ft-3.329/263.05 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.043/313.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.117/309.27, Was #12
Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 5.131/146.59, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.105/310.13, Was #11

Head got out to about 400 feet and started to smoke the tires before he clicked it off. Force with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to set the track E.T. record. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.302, 660ft-3.264/268.38 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.069/300.46, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.081/312.57, Was #6
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.085/305.49, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.096/310.48, Was #10

This was a great side-by-side drag race...both cars with their quickest passes of the weekend. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.276/268.92 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.328, 660ft-3.299/266.64 mph. the top ten cars are now in the 4.0s and Gray is in the 11th spot with a 4.100 second-pass.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 8.829/57.69, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.068/312.86, Was #3
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.065/313.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.072/312.64, Was #6

Force starts to shake and clicked it off early. Worsham with is quickest pass of the weekend to go all the way up to the number two spot. Worsham with his fastest pass of the season and that ties his career fastest speed. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.286/269.67 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.050/315.12, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.067/302.62, Was #3
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.104/308.85, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.071/310.55, Was #6

Hight with the second quickest pass of the event, but can't take the No. 1 spot back from the boss. Hight with the fastest pass of the event. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.319, 660ft-3.275/269.13 mph. Wilkerson with another good pass, but will not improve. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.331, 660ft-3.310/262.79 mph.
