Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Larry Miersch Runs 5.426/266.37, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.737/256.50, Was #16

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 28.68 inches, adjusted altitude 3,697 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Miersch with his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the field. Larry Miersch's incremental times: 60ft-0.960 sec., 330ft-2.461, 660ft-3.610/220.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.588.


Left Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.697/249.35, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.891/252.90, Was #17
Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 6.934/234.78, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.564/262.23, Was #15

Manners was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and pedaled it, but he didn't improve. Tatum with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will not get in the show.

Left Lane: Edwin Schmeeckle Runs 5.618/248.52, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.674/245.58, Was #16
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.518/248.61, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.549/246.53, Was #14

Shields with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.970 sec., 330ft-2.503, 660ft-3.656/217.42 mph, 1,000ft-4.639. Schmeeckle with his quickest pass of the weekend, but doesn't move off the bubble. Edwin Schmeeckle's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.452, 660ft-3.664/203.49 mph, 1,000ft-4.715.

Left Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.685/248.11, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.509/250.78, Was #10
Right Lane: Gord Gingles Runs 5.510/253.04, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.549/259.96, Was #14

Fair was dropping cylinders on the right side early in the run, but got it to clean up. He will not improve and will stay in the number 10 spot. Gingles with his quickest pass of the weekend to move to the number 11 spot. Forrest Fair's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.603, 660ft-3.802/211.30 mph, 1,000ft-4.804.
Gord Gingles' incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.501, 660ft-3.656/216.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.641.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.492/247.29, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.490/258.42, Was #9
Right Lane: Shayne Lawson Runs 17.094/52.61, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.514/253.09, Was #13

Lawson was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. McPhillips almost matched his qualifying time with another good pass. Rich McPhillips' incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.515, 660ft-3.650/220.98 mph, 1,000ft-4.619.

Left Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.404/256.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.477/251.91, Was #7

Guest launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Monroe Guest's incremental times: 60ft-0.934 sec., 330ft-2.438, 660ft-3.571/219.72 mph, 1,000ft-4.545.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.479/240.08, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.474/247.07, Was #7
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.554/252.33, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.482/261.32, Was #8

Bradshaw was dropping cylinders early and never got the to pick back up and will not improve and will stay in the number eight spot. Alan Bradshaw's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.489, 660ft-3.661/211.99 mph, 1,000ft-4.673. Olivarez with another good pass just off his qualifying time. Aaron Olivarez's incremental times: 60ft-0.955 sec., 330ft-2.448, 660ft-3.577/218.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.579.

Left Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 18.512/61.86, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.424/266.69, Was #4
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 5.482/250.23, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.460/258.96, Was #6

Pierce was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. Domingue with another good looking pass, but will not move up the ladder. Buddy Domingue's incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.450, 660ft-3.604/215.82 mph, 1,000ft-4.599.

Left Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.420/266.79, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.396/267.80, Was #1
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.398/260.66, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.411/265.17, Was #3

Demke with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.386, 660ft-3.543/212.73 mph, 1,000ft-4.541. Thompson with another good pass, but will not improve, but holds on the number one spot. James Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.466, 660ft-3.608/221.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.583. Thompson picks up his first National event No. 1 spot.
