Anderson Makes Triumphant Return to Victory Lane

MOHNTON, Pa. - It's been a long time since Andy Anderson and his 1971 Dart have visited PPC Lubricants Victory Lane after a Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail event.

The last trip came during the 2010 season.

Nearly three years of frustration came to a close for the York, Pa., racer as he won the Ciccarone Racing Products Pro E.T. class Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway.

He defeated Paul Werner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) in the final with a pass of 9.934 seconds at 121.91 mph that was .01 over his dial in. Anderson also got a good jump off the starting line, too, and that helped offset Werner's effort that had a .01 over his dial-in.

To get to the final, Anderson had a tough race against defending class champion Paul Thimm Jr. (Mohnton, Pa.) in the quarterfinals. He survived a double-breakout run by going .01 under that dial, while Thimm was .03 under. Anderson then had a bye in the semifinals.

Werner made it to the finals when Dave Sciarretta (Honey Brook, Pa.) broke out in the quarters. He then beat Gary Simpers (North East, Md.) in the semis by going .003 over his dial-in.

Brock Moshier (Lititz, Pa.) capped another great weekend by taking the Gold Rush Trailers Super race in his '71 Vega.

During Saturday's Money Trail race, Moshier won the Pro class and then won NHRA King of the Track. He was also runner-up in Super.

This time, he took the win when runner-up Jack Grater (Perkiomenville, Pa.) fouled in the final. Moshier had similar luck in the quarterfinals when opponent Marty Flegal (Lititz, Pa.) did the same thing in the quarters.

Moshier had a race against Brian Bensinger (West Reading, Pa.) in the semis, but used a combination of reaction time and a .02 over his dial-in to advance.

Meanwhile, Grater used an RT of .016 in back-to-back runs to move on. In the quarters, it helped against Doc Doughtery (Havertown, Pa.) who was closer to his dial (.03 to Grater's .04). Patrick Myers (Dover, Pa.) then broke out in the semis. In P.C. Richard & Son Street, Matt Montgomery (Coatesville, Pa.) cruised to Victory Lane in his '70 Barracuda with a pass of 12.047 at 109.61 in the final to beat Mike Tomaszewski (Reading, Pa.), who broke out by .01.

Montgomery beat Phil Williams (Mohrsville, Pa.) in the quarterfinals by going .017 over his dial, then getting the nod in the semis when Scott Smith (Birdsboro, Pa.) broke out. Tomaszewski beat Elise Renninger (Leesport, Pa.) in the quarterfinals by going .013 over his dial and then had a bye into the final.

Allen Heilner (Birdsboro, Pa.) made his first Victory Lane visit of '13 by winning Ray's Yamaha Top Bike. The win was assured when Danny Boyer (York, Pa.) fouled at the start in the final.

Heilner and his '06 HD got through the quarters when Kyle Gockley (Mohnton, Pa.) drew a red light, and then won the semis as Bruce Gockley (Mohnton, Pa.) broke out. Boyer beat Wayne Pyfrom (Denver, Pa.) in the quarters by going .005 over his dial; he then beat Bob Bechtel (Reading, Pa.) in the semis by simply being quicker.

In Junior Dragsters, Vincent Branca (Norristown, Pa.) defeated Kyle Robb (Denver, Pa.) in the final with a great RT of .019 and an eighth-mile run of 7.944 at 80.47.

Caleb Holley (Carlisle, Pa.) was a semifinalist.

Shannon Cain (West Chester, Pa.), a regular visitor to Victory Lane in 2012, returned in an '04 Volvo this time. She outran Adam Blocklinger (North Wales, Pa.) in the final with a pass of 16.284 at 75.83.

Racing returns on Friday with a round of Auto Locator Grudge Racing. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing from 5-10 p.m.

There will be another Money Trail race on Saturday. Gates open at 9 a.m. and racing begins at 10. The track will be closed Sunday for Mother's Day.
