Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, North Central Division, Spring Spectacle of Speed listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Brian Harvanek No Time, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 6.388/214.35, Now #5; No Prior Run

1:32 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 65 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.22 inches, adjusted altitude 1,578 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

Harvanek's crew could not get the engine to fire and was not able to make a pass. Butler got out of shape early, started moving around, then pedaled. He got the car under control and ran quick enough to get in the field in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Kevin Newburgh Runs 5.767/248.80, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rob Pfeister Runs 6.438/184.65, Now #7; No Prior Run

Newburgh both went bowling for timing blocks yesterday and both had their runs disqualified when they took out one each. No problems here, both going right down the groove. Newburgh goes right down the groove and gets in the show in the fourth spot for now. Pfeister's engine seemed to be a little sluggish all the way through the run but he runs well enough to get in the field for now.

Left Lane: Dale Brand Runs 7.980/119.55, Now #9; Best prior run: 14.669/36.57, Was #9
Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 6.013/244.47, Now #6; Best prior run: 12.337/65.24, Was #8

Brand shook the tires on his first attempt and the chutes came out early. Bojec had traction problems on his first attempt and had to back off the throttle.

Bojec shook the tires early and had to pedal. He gets near the end of the run, drifts to the right and comes close to the wall just as he goes through the lights.

Brand got out of the groove about 400 feet out, drifted to the left and had to back off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.683/255.39, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.827/255.43, Was #5
Right Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 5.742/256.80, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.623/258.91, Was #2

Bohl shook the tires early, drifted to the right, but never backed off the throttle. He steers it back to the center of the lane and makes a decent pass. Foster went right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up to the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.658/255.10, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.723/259.81, Was #4
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 11.194/75.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.551/262.90, Was #1

Manzo shook the tires, gets about 200 feet out and gives up on the run. Noakes went right down the groove and moves up a notch to the third spot.
